Good morning from mostly cloudy, snowy and cold Northeast Ohio! Managed to get a couple of cars done this week. Kadee PS 2003CF Covered Hopper, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray and lettered with decals (DT&I Style) from the Ann Arbor Historical Society. Car was originally purchased for hauling cement out of the Dundee Cement Plant in Dundee, MI. After the Interstate Highway Program slowed down it was transferred to hauling sand from the pit in Yuma, MI to the Ford Casting Plant in Brookpark, OH. IMRC FMC 5283CF Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Tuscan Red, Silver and Black paints then lettered with Herald King Decals. The SP & SSW purchased hundreds of these cars in various classes with and without cushioned underframes for hauling lumber out of the Pacific Northwest. The only other users were the Milwaukee Road whose cars were eventually transferred to the BAR after the Milwaukee pulled out of the Pacific Extension. A picture I took awhile back but never published of my detailed and painted Kato GP35 and Stewart (Kato) U25B in Wabash livery followed by a general freight of mixed Wabash and other cars. The Rio Grande Prospector in my driveway. The a double header UTA FRONTRUNNER is a friend's train running on Pelle's layout at the Exact Rail building in Provo, Utah.
After what turned into something of a struggle, I got my version of the Tropicana Orange Juice Train running. The Con-Cor reefer kits turned into a challenge. Holes were the wrong size for the screws provided. In a few cases the holes for the trucks were too small for the frames. In one case the truck hole was too big, and the trucks slipped over the screw. No screws were provided for the coupler pockets. Kadee #5 couplers with the metal spring did not fit in the pocket. They were too tall. Kadee #148 barely fit but slight modifications had to be made to the pocket lid. I had to steal trucks off an undecorated Atlas 50 Ft boxcar to address the hole that was too big. Once on the layout and running several cars uncoupled on curves. It took additional tweaking of the couplers to get them to work correctly and consistently. After this experience I am shying away from Con-Cor kits for the time being. After all that I did get the train to run and here it is. 1 of 2 Bachmann Penn Central GG-1 Con-Cor kits (white reefers)

I doubt it. I need another locomotive like a hole in the head. I still have a backlog of half finished steam engine projects that I need to finish before I can even think of adding another one. I have a couple of Kato Mikados that I am doing heavy modifications to and another Con Cor/Kato S2 Northern that I am converting to an SP GS1. Then there are a bunch of Trix Pacifics that are being made railroad specific.
