Hi, my Bachmann J Econami has lost its beautiful chuff. The sound is barely audible, and the volume CVs have not been changed.

So I tried to do a factory reset with the reset option on the programming menu. No luck. So I found that setting CV8 to 8 will do a factory reset. Unfortunately, it' seems to be read-only in JMRI.

Can I do anything about this, or is this a pack it up and send off to Erie Avenue? Been past it hundreds of times (56 trolley and my grandfather's Impala) but never went in.

CV8=8 does not change the value in CV8, that will always be the manufacturer's ID. But trying to set it to 8 is a "special" command, that the decoder recognizes.

Are there any suggestions since JMRI doesn't seem to want to do it? Do I just attempt it on the main in Ops mode (no other decoders on the track)

I got it reset. I need a programming track booster, tho. For whatever reason, if I try to set it to use the long address, I lose the sound, and it has a beautiful chuff.
