It could be that the cars are identical, and both have stencils on one end "closed", the other end "open". I would also think it is entirely possible they needed the added air circulation for the boiler to fire at optimum.
After making my comment in Railfan Photos of the Week about wanting more of 1225 to show, I dug out a couple I took back in 2000.
They certainly were! Rio Grande Combine 1230, Denver, CO, mid-1990s (Bob Jordan) Santa Fe Geometry Car 85, Colorado Springs, CO, early 1990s (Bob Jordan)
Nice shot, but the little D&RGW MOW truck at right in the last image caught my eye. There's a distinct lack of photos of D&RGW maintenance vehicles from the 70s and 80s, but I'm sure that deficit extends to other roads too.
Somehow seeing that advertisement, with a wrecked car coupled, just does not quite have great appeal...
The Pleasure Domes weren't dome coaches. They had a revolving seat parlor upstairs, two lounges and a private dining room.
That's the Turquoise Room nearest the camera. Can't tell if that's a 600 Series diner she's attached to. She spent her entire revenue career with that end coupled to a 600.
Not quite. It's Budd built New York Central Diner Table car 406 which came up from the Texas Southern operation with the 500.
They were. PV 800275 "Sierra Hotel" (former CB&Q 251 "Silver Lounge"), Denver, CO, October 2001 (Bob Jordan) SP Dome-Lounge 3604, Denver, CO, circa 1971 (Bob Jordan)
I don't know a whole lot about the SP, but I've always thought that their Dome-Lounges were inspired cars and so beautiful. I can only imagine what it must have been like to enjoy a drink and an awesome view in that space. I has no idea that they lasted in service into the '70s.
That Bob Jordan was a busy rail fan photographer! Sure glad you ended up with the images, and were willing to post.
