I saw one of these in Gainesville yard unloading rail. It's an odd looking duck for sure.

Speak of the devil... just pulled up to Nowers (OKC) to get on my train and look what's in the yard.

Of course Union Pacific have their own version too, built by RELCO.

On a frigid 12/21/1976, a C&NW freight prepares to detour south on the EJ&E at Barrington, IL after a derailment. The interchange track between the EJ&E and C&NW is close by.

Was there any significance to the black-on-white vs. white-on-black number boards on the CNW SD40-2s?

Here are a couple more pics. It is named a slot machine. I never found the slot for the quarters and the pull arm. :D

Interesting how the intermediate platform where the tractor sits was built 5-96 but the end platform next to it where the bucket rests was built 11-91.

As an aside I'm curious if anyone knows a good paint match for that Georgetown sandy yellow.

I don't think its in any danger of being scrapped

    \

Correct, it has an EMD 567 BC prime mover and an EMD generator.

Knowing the C&NW (Cheap & Nothing Wasted), it was just whatever they had on hand.

    :D

It certainly is neat to see that old Alco still around. Built in 1951 for the DL&W railroad.

BTW, those two vents up near the original radiator opening look like the open louvers (to ventilate the motor) Mehano put into the original Atlas RSC-2 back near the cab. :D
