Hello all it is finally time to start laying track. I'm using ME code 55 track. I was wondering if the atlas sidekick tool #0401 would work on the joiners. Anyone have any experience with using this tool. Thanks Larry
Larry, I have not used the Atlas tool. However, I have taken a short piece of ME code 55 track to use as a holder, removed a few ties and and then filed one of the rails into a an angled point, so that I can open up the usually very tight ME C55 rail joiners. But, recently I have taken to using the Atlas Code 55 rail joiners, as they slip onto the ME C55 easily. They work really well with the ME Code 55 Turnouts/Switches which are really delicate. - Tonkphilip
I've laid a lot of ME code 55, and never used a too to add joiners. I find that carefully filing the ends of the rail very lightly to very slightly round the edges or the cut facemakes joining easy and painless. Rail nippers have a way of leaving ragged edges.
