Passed out early and woke up with a nice sinus headache as the weather front moves through.

Roseville Yard is empty and UP train count is way down. So not so much for me to post.

OK, no surprise here. It's another PM 1225 shot. Here the big Berk blasts over a rural grade crossing between Ithaca and North Star, Mich with a flurry of smoke and steam on a gloomy day in October 2017. Shot made somewhat more gloomy by being taken through the windshield.

Did a trip south chasing the Northgate local again today. Several different shots, even some time exposures. Gotta process them!

Maybe no suprise but it's always a big treat!

With that crossing to compare the road to 1225, it gives a good idea how massive she is. And gorgeous!

Nothing new for me so here is a very old one from my files. However these were new at the time.

I guess that's in Steelton, with the mill in the background?

We had early snow in Oct, but it is gone now. The 1987 is a good ole 40-2, waiting for fuel. This area is where they now bring a private fuel truck to fill these thirsty beasts. PIC_0291.JPG
And these trains are waiting for crews to head east.... PIC_0288.JPG

Looks very much akin to an ALCo creation. A copy built by a Russian firm?

Nice photos. Great mood. Almost enough to make you look forward to winter. It's interesting to note that class 1 roads are adopting the use of private fuel trucks. Short lines like Huron and Eastern have been doing that for years. Apparently the economics are similar enough for the larger roads to go that way, too.

That would be my guess but don't know for sure.

Saw a lot of cool rail equipment there but this one was my favorite.

That is a TEM-2, and they were copies of Alco products. Back when the Soviets and Americans were allies in WWII, we sent them Alco RSD-1s. They kept them after the war and reverse engineered them to create the TE series of locomotives. The TE-1s were pretty close copies, but the later ones had some of the Russian engineers' modifications, so they look different.

I did know we had sent them equipment during the war. I have known a few men who worked for our US railroads, who ended up being sent over to Iran as part of operating a rail connection from there to the USSR.

It's ironic that the first Soviet standardized diesels where copies of American Locomotive Company products...

You can't make stuff like this up!

Another trip to chase the Northgate Local, we have "Over the Hogback at MP 16"
16 miles from Niobe, ND, and the switch that diverges from the Crosby Sub. It was overcast, windy and cold, but a great chase!

The tele-zoom effect sure makes that track look a bit of a bumpy ride!

It might have been. Even at a max of 25 MPH, bumpy. The ribbon rail sure looks out of place, though!
