Back when I was a kid, you knew a man was a real man if you seen him smoking a pipe, but nowadays being a pipesmoker in not considered so manly.
Now, you are considered "manly" if you actually LIKE to go shopping and change the baby's diaper every time it needs it. Doug
I never knew how many times I've actually seen people smoking while operating trains until this thread. My grandfather, when he was alive, never smoked around us grand kids, but he did occasionally smoke out in the garage as do i from time to time. I do remember seeing some of these magazines though which is surprising to me. I'm more of a drinker myself so when I run trains a nice coldy is in my hand! Maybe the beer market could use some ideas to advertise with model trains. That's something I would enjoy to see. Mmmmm That smell is to die for! Which we might literally die from but its ok. Fun Fact: 18 yrs old. First job. My boss would show and share pipe tobacco with me. Thats how I learned to smoke my first pipe. I should have been cold calling selling trains instead of ink and toner !! hahah
I worked part time for a copier/printer/networking company while I was waiting to retire a few years ago. I answered the phone one day and it was a customer, upset because he ordered blue toner and got cyan. Doug
I have been rerestoring (I originally restored it partially in 1976 and it has been in my late father-in-law's basement for years) an old Hallicrafters S-76 shortwave receiver so I have experienced the cloth covered wire/old flux/solder thing. It's great. Doug
Looks like the guy is mad, maybe the locomotive isn't running like it should or he doesn't like what he is smoking. Joe
Too flippin' funny, another fine Canadian comedy act...I suppose the module would have to be a circle. "Dave's not here"
Just stumbled onto this thread. I have that book also. I must have bought it 45 years ago. At the time I was a cigarette smoker. I then changed over to pipes and indeed smoked one often while at the work bench and while operating trains. Gave up smoking around 11 years ago but still running trains. Every once in a while I get a hankering for my pipes but it passes quickly. It is amazing how quickly time passes.
