Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot done, let's see how we did. Saturday: The event Angela had planned ended up taking all day so no modeling was done. I did get to spend the afternoon with one of my best friends and fellow N scaler. We had lunch and dinner together and had a good day. Sunday: I was motivated to get a lot done. Unfortunately, the 150 year old house had other ideas. Long story short, the brackets I built that were like the N scale ones I built, did not work because this wall had no studs or anything to get a hold of. I decided to take a break and think things through then came up with a solution. I ended up making the brackets longer and attached them to the large pine baseboard. It was late so with this, my day came to a close. In the end this worked, but I think I may go a different route after having a full night to sleep on it. So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll return again on Friday the 30th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe, be healthy and as always... High Greens!
Happy Monday. Saturday wasn't much, actually no model RR. Had some other work bench duties come up that had nothing to do w/ trains plus I wasted 3 hours watching my NC State team get trounced by UNC. Anyway, Sunday was different. I worked most of the day on the South River Modelworks "Meyers" kit. Most dealing w/ the base. I moved the coal pit which took some time as well as sited the buildings and got the track permanently installed.
Tinkering with a small paint faux pas. I hate these new paints. Thin, runny. Their price is a pure ripoff.
Good morning all, Got all 4 of the IR LED transmitter stands installed along with their associated sensors in the tracks. Then got the 2 Azatrax units I have mounted under the yard so I could do some experimental running with them. The other 2 should be here in a couple days, their locations are marked in purple in this photo. Routed all the wiring so it's ready when they arrive. The concept works well but I may need to move some of the transmitters / sensors back just a bit to allow for the trains coasting to a stop. Then finished that last section of bench work that I started last weekend. As the plywood base was 24" wide and this section is right over the balloon loop end of the yard, I decided to let that extra 4" extend out and put an angle on the corners. This one is now ready for primer / sealer. Enjoyed the weekend, hope you all did too.
Got a little bit done this weekend. Friday was a bust got nothing done. Saturday I moved the modules inside. Cold weather has arrived. Glad I did. It snowed Saturday night. Got everything attached. Alignment pins drilled and placed. Foam board glued on and the end plate for the 4’ module where the Y will be is in place. Next I will start the fascia. Planning the scenery for this blank canvas now.
I got done absolutely nothing, zip, nada, zero as far as modeling. I wish I knew what happened to this weekend. I think I accomplished a few things around the house but I am not sure any longer. Well, I will try to get something done this week.
As I was doing some last minute touch ups on my U18B kit... I was looking at that thing...thinking. It would be a short hop to take this model and turn it into a U36B (or U33B) So this weekend I started the conversion. I have an Auto-Train set (N Scale) with extra passenger cars, tons of auto-racks, but the Bachmann U36B is just not up to today's standards. This U36B is destined for Auto-Train in addition to Seaboard*, Conrail and CSX: Plenty left to do but I'm stoked to have a good U36B in N Scale!! Cheers -Mike
Looks like great results for most projects. Beware the "nappishness". You take a nap one day and wake up the following. Friday night was grandson's football. Due to the win, on to the playoff. More work on the boiler jacket. Also a car was damaged and put in the shop. Now repaired. Yours truly has been invited to the Helena (AL) Fall Train Show and prep work has begun. Hope to see many there.
And I will be glad to hand you money for several of these shells when you are ready to vend them. the N Scale Bachmann U36B was my first locomotive. I need several of these.
This looks great! You don't want to forget the fillet along the top of the long hood though. It should match the radius you used on the top edges of the nose.
Well, after getting ready for my new trailer, I found some time after all to fit some modeling in. I managed to finish building and painting a set of six 42' Drop Bottom Gondola's for staging around my Lester WA module set. They are made following plans from the 1940 Car Builders Cyclopedia of the third order from NP of GS Low Side Pressed Steel Car numbered 52000-52749 built in 1937-1938. I still have to add decals, then dullcote, and weather. I think I will add coal loads to 3 and leave 3 as empties. Here is current progress:
Count me in the did absolutely nothing. Only accomplishment was to drive the wife to Home Depot and back. Other than that, a lot of time napping in my recliner. Maybe next weekend
The risers got plastered... along with a good part of the ROW. Knees complained, so set up the radio for untehered running. Discovered my wife's engines cost more to convert to DCC than replace. She gets a new heavy Mike, a Chessie switcher and a D&RGW SD7/9. Ain't love grand? Sent from my SM-T837A using Tapatalk
Tom, . Whatever it was, must have been waterborne from the Schuykill down to the Delaware because "I got done absolutely nothing, zip, nada, zero as far as modeling", also. Now I've set up my work area for some long over due outdoors gear maintenance projects that probably won't be complete by the coming weekend. Stuff I need to address to continue my North Central Pa explorations. I hope the situation in Cobbs Creek doesn't effect you.
Nothing. Continued cleaning out my late mother's home in preparation for an estate sale. I was blessed to have a brother and others to help clear out the attics, and my wife has been an energized dynamo. My mother left enough dish sets to fill a gondola and furniture enough to fill an 86' Hi Cube boxcar.
