I do like your tower and I like that steamer. Is that from marklin Christmas set with a repaint black?
Thank you all Have a nice weekend. Joe: You are right, it's a Märklin Christmas 4-6-0. For the changes I made at this loco take a look at https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/4-6-0-conversion.111728/ I tried to "modernize" it a bit, to take away some details of the German steamer "P8" and to add power pick up from the tender, but I was not able to make it good enough. So it has still only 2 drivers for power pick up. It still need decals.
Hi all, after a half year full of other tasks I am back on my layout. In the last days I detailed the elevator area and the site of John St. Evans' material shop. This is still in progress. The elevator received a bit of weathering, signs and some surplus grain boards (especially for Kurt and Robert ). I have to add some more boards, but my fingers were getting tired while cutting these parts last night I moved the office building from the material dealer, now the elevator operator has a nice accommodation: The crossbucks are simple prints on paper: The material dealer got a low budget shed made from surplus parts of the water tower kit. I am making fences and gates for both trucks and rail cars. Bulk material can be stored in a concrete bin, in a few days the plaster will be some sort of gravel: And last but not least there is now a little nice tool shed beside the water tower: Things become alive ... slowly...
I like the grain elevator. The chute system seems to be set for loading boxcars--hard to believe grain was once loaded in boxcars!
I really enjoy seeing layouts getting progressively better. Really like the rusty fence. It just gives it a great realistic feel. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Very nice! I really like the bands on the water tower. Elevator and dealer building look great as well!
Hi guys, thank you very much, gives me the right energy. While trying to convert the pile of plaster into a pile of sand I thought I have to change colour of my sand material without painting the concrete walls too, it was just too yellow. Finally I mixed new sand with a blend of powder colours and glued this mix on my pile. It seems to be a good way to find right colours before any use on layout. For the material dealer I ended up with this, last fence and some vegetation added: Some days before I had an idea how to design the right front corner under railroad bridge. There should be something of an industrial scene without much room available to hide the black backdrop. The solution is a new spur for static display only, which serves a little warehouse (surplus parts from faller 282747), visible only partially. The spur left of main line will serve a fuel dealer, receiving coal hopper and tank cars.
Fantastic...static display is a great move. The little details even better foliage along fence lines gives such a realistic touch. I like seeing what you do it inspires me to keep on adding to my layout as a layout is never really done.
A small step further on... I shortened and painted the Faller shed and there is a printed background-extension for this building. While all the glued underground is still drying I came up with this general arrangement. It needs still some paint and details and another type of box car, but it should look like this:
Hi all, the Rokohan bridges are now ballasted (unlike the creek bridge at the other layout end), weathered and installed: Then I built parts for the fuel dealer: a conveyor for coal unloading from scrap and oil tanks from Kibri 36690 kit: I plan to use a wooden car body for the workers and their equipment. The car does not fit in my era, so it is a kind of "recycling". The body will rest on ties. Arrangement could look like this, also visible the finished display spur:
I love the "Baumker" sign on the right hand corner... Regarding the tanks: if you're planning to weather them, maybe some inspiration here (from German z scaler Heribert Matt
