Part of Lionel's 1957 - 1966 era HO Scale product line, unlike the Athearn Hustlers which were all released with "Hi-Fi" rubber band drive mechanisms, the later production Lionel models were gear driven. Although Athearn produced four different variations of their Hustler chassis, the gears and the black bottom plate were only seen on Lionel releases. Printed in white, the black plastic plates bore the following text: "Husky Switcher The Lionel Corporation New York Made In U.S. of America". As was the case with the early Lionel HO-Scale models that were manufactured by Rivarossi, early Athearn produced Lionel releases bore circular "L" logos on their bodies. Unlike the Athearn releases which were factory decorated and bore large numbers under their cab windows, Lionel models were delivered in governmental and railroad liveries. The Lionel models were shipped in Minneapolis and St. Louis 0561 (rotary snow plow with operating blade and white cab sides), Navy Yard New York 0570, Rio Grande (with an orange snow plow) 0560, U.S. Air Force Minuteman 0053, Minneapolis and St. Louis 0055 (with red cab sides), AEC (Atomic Energy Commission) 0056, Union Pacific 0057, and Rock Island 0058 liveries.

But, he tells me I am wrong, and "proves" it by sending photographs that show the gauge of the wheels against a ruler. I can tell how much of an "expert" this seller is by the photos that show the tender sitting backwards between the locomotive and box car. But, I am not telling him about that, because it provides a good warning to prospective buyers. Still, he has 6 bids, already, so I suspect some HOn3 modelers have figured this out.
Uh oh. Well, it is NOT HOn3. It is HOn30. It is an N scale mechanism, with an HO sized cab installed. (I am a long time HOn30 modeler....) There is quite a difference between HOn3 and HOn30. HOn3 is most commonly seen representing the D&RGW narrow gauge, the East Broad Top or similar. HOn30, (thirty inches, due to the gauge of N track), is commonly used to simulate the Maine Two Footers.
Right, or "HO 2-1/2". I did not realize that they had differentiated between "HOn3" and "HOn30" which I call "HO 2-1/2". As you say, n scale track is used to represent the Main 2-footers. In reality, n scale track gauge is 9mm, which equates to 30" in HO scale, and z scale track at 6.5 mm gauge comes out to 22-1/4" in HO scale. So, there is a lot of "representing" for other prototype gauges. Modelers who want to faithfully model track gauges other than 30" and 22-1/4" will have to hand lay every bit of track. Anyway, the point of my post is that the listing is not for items that are N scale. I don't model narrow gauges, so I don't know what gauge the prototype is for that particular model.
Most folks who model in the scale, call it HOn30. That took a solid hold way back during the 1970's, with the works of Hayden & Frary. Very few folks still call it HOn2&1/2. Part of that being Kalmbach stubbornly kept using it, even after all the other magazine publishers had switched to "n30" years beforehand. We use "n30" just because it does scale out to 30", even though we are simulating a two foot operation. Very, very few hand lay track to true HOn2, and they are quite the fanatical little splinter group. Another giveaway for that model being HOn30 is "Sandy River" on the tender. The Sandy River RR was a Maine Two Footer, which became a part of the famous Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes RR. I also recognize the box car as being HOn30, as I used to have one of those particular kits.
