Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a safe and healthy week and you're ready for the weekend. Let's get started. Saturday: Based on weather mainly. If it rains, I'll be spending my time in the work shop and layout room maybe working on track plans. If it does not rain, I will be in the garage working on two projects. Last weekend I installed the brackets and built the 1X3 frame that will hold the second shadow box and yard area for my small switching layout. I would like to get the hardboard cut so I can build the skyboard back, sides and front upper and lower fascia. This past Wednesday, I was able to cut the majority of plywood pieces of my HO module. I hope to have that assembled and would really like to have the legs and foam applied as well. My biggest issue is finding the 2-inch thick foam and getting it home as a 4X8 sheet will not fit in a Wrangler or Mustang! Sunday: We are supposed to have a car/motorcycle show here locally, however the last two shows I wanted to go to were cancelled at the last minute, so I've quit planning any automotive shows until at least next year. I need to do some yard work and any time left over will be used to finish up any loose ends from Saturday. So how about you? What do you have planned for the weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 14th to see how we have all done. One more thing. It would seam that the media and social media platforms have forgotten that today is a day of remembrance. It was 19 years ago today that America and the world changed for ever. I don't want to dwell on a sad day, however I do think we should remember those who were lost on a tragic day in September. Be healthy, stay safe and... ALWAYS REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 High Greens.
I plan on continuing to weather reefers. The list is smaller from last weekend. • 7 – Bev-Bel/Roundhouse PRR 50 ft wood express reefers (8 car Bev-Bel set. One car is done) • Atheran General American Refrigerator Express 50 ft express reefer • Athearn CN 40 ft steel reefer • MDC/Roundhouse Lehigh Valley 36 ft wood reefer • MDC/Roundhouse Chateau Martin 50 ft wood express reefer (Arrived this week. It was fully assembled with Kadee couplers. I will change out the plastic wheels once I get more metal ones. It was light so I added some weight to bring it up to NMRA recommendations.) The second MDC/Roundhouse Lehigh Valley 36 ft wood reefer arrived yesterday. I spray painted the metal base. I plan to finish assembling it and weathering it. Once these are done all the reefers from my “Wall of Trains’ are done, except for the ones requiring parts. I will never forget what happened this day. I t was one of the few days I was genuinely scared. I worked in a government building sitting on top of hill on the flight path to Philadelphia International. With all the rumors going around and lack of accurate news we did not know what was happening other than government buildings were being targeted. I decided to leave the office and go home. Just before I left the Governor closed our building. I will never forget the feeling of relief I felt walking in the door at home and seeing my family or the quiet that night as there were no planes flying overhead.
I remember where I was and what I was doing at that exact time. The same thing as when President Kennedy was killed. Both very eerie days.
Prep work for the meet next weekend continues. Also starting to hand lay some track. I will see how that goes. This is the first one I ever did last night. A bit rough and doesn’t look pretty.
Good Morning, I will be using all of my modeling time to continue progress on the staging yard rebuild. All the the track, turnouts, and turnout motors are now installed on the entry end of the yard and I will be working on dropping feeders and reconnecting the wiring. Work at the turn around loop end has started by re configuring the 5th siding so that it comes off of the return track. This photo taken yesterday clearly shows with the marks from the old cork and the partial installation of the new cork how this is different. So I'll also be working in this area. We still have a heavy smoke mix overhead which has caused an almost nuclear winter effect. Last weekend we hit 100+ and now can't hit 70 so heat in the train room is not a problem for me now. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
I didn't get anything I wanted done last weekend, but I did have a good time BBQ, Dart tournament, and family fun, thanks to family and friends. This weekend I want to finish my Tortoise/Hare install and adjustments on my Coal Dock module. Got a date Saturday, Module Sunday.
Last weekend I got 110 "puff ball" trees done. Also finished building the 6 C&O cantilever bridges for my signaling projects. This weekend I hope to get some of the tree's attached to a cliff. Also will box up and ship out the cantilever bridges to have the lights put in. Speaking of "boxing", I have 2 engines that need to go back to the factory for some "issues" so I hope to get them boxed up and shipped out at the same time. Also, I started last Sunday I started re-wiring a Bachmann 2-8-0 tender so I can put a TCS WOW sound in it. Had to stop because I ran out of small gauge stranded wire of the right colors. Ordered some on line Monday and the box just showed up. So I may also "revisit" the tender this weekend.
Good question. Hmmm. I have several ideas brewing. But then it is my favorite time of year for photos, so maybe I will dash up Marias Pass and see if anything is even moving, for a photo or two.
Well ---- Saturday - We are heading off to our friends house -- to do some socially distanced - socializing Sunday - Work on my 2-10-2 project - ?? Y'all have a fantastic weekend!! Wolf
Yes, we do remember Nine Eleven. Cruel and tragic attack. Looks like some great projects in the works. Mine right now is doing some repairs. This will include upgraded parts. I have also begun making parts for the Mogul and two cabooses. Glue drying as I type. All be well.
It is both a day to remember and a day to respond to our current issues. I can find some joy in helping my neighbors, next door and next state. I can share some joy right here on this forum. Been away for a couple weeks and ready to do a little modeling. Back at it on the 2-8-2. This weekend I hope to build some ladders, remove extra walkways, add handrails, add a few rivets and attach the platform. All for the tender. We will see how it goes. Decided to add a current picture. Featuring Covid-19 hairstyle. It's where I am today. Stay safe.
Haha Mark, I bought a clipper set and taught myself how to cut my own hair. It was goofy looking for the first few cuts, but I got the hang of it now. I hope there's no fires near you!
No fires near here. Smoke blew in the past few days, but that will pass. Still deciding if I should go with pony tail or side braids!
I have a second, smaller layout currently in storage. I plan on getting that out and installing a structure and figures that I removed form the larger layout (to make room for a very 50's Dairy Queen). The Salmonella Bros. Fresh Eggs and Produce stand will give the IGA across the highway some competition once I'm done.
Thanks! It does have a few small issues but now that I know what I am doing the next three should be better.
Friday and Saturday will be spent exploring the vicinity of Barclay Mountain. Looking exploring S&NY RR grade and looking for the top of an inclined plane, might also look for the location of an old 1800's yard somewhere on the mountain. Most of the top was stripped off late 20th century but the cemetery, grade of the inclined plane some old drift mine openings and small yard areas were not disturbed. Sunday finish power feeds to spur tracks and possibly finish laying track.
I plan to continue working on scenery for modules 07 and 08, Cynthia and I are making trees this afternoon. The steel trestle kit should arrive anytime soon, hopefully today. If so will spend this evening putting it together. Joe
