Anyone heard from him? I know he lives up in the bay area where all those fires are. I lost his phone number when I got my new phone.
He lives in the Sacramento Area. Other than the intense amount of smoke and the hot weather, I believe he is just fine.
There are also fires in Colorado, Utah, Nevada and Idaho. We drove west from Denver starting last Thursday, arriving in Bay Area yesterday afternoon. Except from Steamboat Springs to Vernal, never saw blue sky
He and I had a PM back and forth just last week. He's good but unhappy with some things. Smoke! And we've got it bad here in Nampa, ID.
I grew up in 1960s/70s Los Angeles and even in the smog filled sky I never saw it as bad as it has been with the smoke. It actually looks like fog with a visibility of less than a mile at times. Sunsets are spectacular but the sky during the day can be brown making everything outside appear yellowish like a sci fi movie. Ash 'snow' on the cars in the mornings. Everything needs to remain closed up since the air outside is worse than the air inside. If you thought sheltering is place for Covid was bad, this is much worse since you can't really stand to spend much time outside because of the air quality. Today it is, however, better than yesterday, and it will hopefully continue.
Jeff, depending on what part of LA you grew up in you may remember some of the refinery or other industrial fires that burned for weeks. I remember there being a dark narrow cloud of smoke from El Segundo going east and ash falling all over the basin. I think that was in the summer of 68.
You aren't alone in remembering the fires of the past. I had no idea how much influence the fires in California and Oregon have on their neighboring states. This has been worse then the times we got smoked out of Big Bear Lake, Ca. And they think, who is they? I think you know! This is Okay. I don't think so. In Big Bear some one wised up and started selling tee shirts that said, "Don't let the Forest Service play with matches" Other's wore, "Bring back the fire breaks and maintain them!" A form of quiet, peaceful, resistance and protest.
