I know these could just go in the Random Railfan Prototype Photos For All thread but thought it might be cool to have a thread just for steam.

Starting off, here we see the N&W J class #611 departing Chattanooga TN and contributing to the already foggy conditions on a cool fall morning in the late 1980's

This jewel last saw use in the 1954 movie "Timberjack". The Number 7 has been long sitting on display at Fort Missoula, Montana. Last I heard, they were finally going to be building a shelter for this Willamette Shay:

Your "steamy" photo reminded me of ones I took of 4449 at the 2011 Holiday Express event, cold winter steam is impressive.
Before I figured out what was causing the green spot to the right of the headlight.

I should add this locomotive spent it's entire career operating out of Milltown/Bonner, Montana. Milltown and Bonner are side by side towns, often confused by outsiders and even locals. She ran for three different operations, all on the same tracks, what were known as the "Big Blackfoot Railway". Longest owned by Anaconda Copper Mining, their Lumber Division. Yes, mining. Underground mines needed timbers. Not that all the sawn lumber went that way.... Some of these tracks were later acquired by the Milwaukee Road, and served by a local based out of Missoula until the mid-1970's when they were abandoned.

Still an exceptional shot though! When I use my zoom lens, I often get those refractive green spots in my pictures too. VERY irritating. For that reason, I don't use the zoom all that much. It may not be of high quality.

This slide of 1218 undergoing her initial rebuild for fantrip service is a bit blurred. [NW Steam Shop, Irondale, AL - 11/16/1985]

What is the heritage of TVRM #610. By any chance, ex-N&W?

US Army. They bought eight of this class (some of the last steam locomotives to be built in the US) to train crews to operate and maintain commandeered steam engines in foreign countries if we ever invaded them back in the 50s.

3985 near Navasota, Texas in 1992. The poor dog at the lower left seems to be concerned about that monster behind it.

The dog likely hears plenty of unfamiliar (maybe scary?) sounds and smells some strange odors (a whole potpourri of them, we just smell smoke). Then he sees that monster thunder by belching black smoke.

If I were a dog, I'd be concerned too. But I'm not. The only concern I would have is if I had a camera handy (and how hard I'd kick myself if I hadn't one).
