Looks like quite a mess to clean up there. What state? The story used city and county names but no reference that I saw for the state. Guessing Missouri?

You make such a good point that the writer didn't think it necessary to type two letters to show the state. I think you're right with MO.

I see this sort of thing in the railfan world too, where fans post photos with the parochial assumption that everyone knows the area where they live. It's a big country folks! :)

Is just north of us here at New Florence MO. The site is about 24 miles north of me but access is limited where we could not get close yesterday. It occurred at a no longer in use switched siding, the MFA Fertilizer plant stopped taking rail cars some ten or more years ago yet the siding remained for the N&S to use for whatever purpose. The track by appearances destructed at the location of that siding switch. Typical speeds thru this point are around 50mph.

Sorry on the less than informative.

I suppose that this also serves as a caution to stand away from the tracks when train watching.

I wonder if they will remove that siding now? Also, the thought runs through my mind, that if it happened at a switch, (being essentially disused?), did someone do something nasty?

Go to Google Maps, New Florence MO, siding is SE corner of town and NOT far from any homes, made me wonder as NF is full of dirtbags. If was tripped, if Lock had been removed going to be a BIG Stink over it. Could have gotten someone killed, that would be attempted murder,

Sad point in all this is N&S is a Single track main with passing sidings thru here, there is no reasonable alternate from Mexico MO to STL for them. At one time the CB&Q had a main from Mexico MO to Old Monroe MO that connected to the BNSF Main into STL where could have bought that in the death rolls of the CB&Q but chose to let it go away. Interconnects seem to be a lost art these days.

Anything to pinch a penny. Short term gain; long term pain...

This point of line under the roadway is the Siding, the rail cars are sitting across the Main Roadbed. I suspect the siding will stay but be disconnected from the main.

It still amazes me that with all those dynamic forces that had to be going on, that those containers stayed locked together.

It is amazing the amount of force those twistlocking corner devices can withstand and still do the job they were designed to do.

They are harder than woodpecker lips!! Forged where the end fittings on containers are at least 1/2" plate.

Finally found the Main was restored to limited operation night of the third(8/3/2020) they are utilizing the siding east of there and north in Montgomery City for wreck recovery car storage on and off as the traffic flows recover.
Speed thru the area has been decreased to 25mph until the final stages of cleanup are completed.

Weird, Last night the UP on the old MoPac Main at Festus MO lost a rock train, dumped some 10 cars. With all our rain roadbeds may be softening up.

Time to put into place speed restrictions all across the division? I hope they have increased track patrols, to watch ditches and culverts.
