I measured one of the fence panels Rick Brodzinsky printed for me.

    3 5/8 " long ( 45' N Scale )
    3/8" Tall ...including length of posts ( 5' N Scale )
    1/4" tall....without posts ( 40" N Scale )

    I estimate the thickness to be 1/64" !!!! :eek::eek:

You can read about the 3 rail pasture fence caper here...

    https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/need-someone-to-do-some-3d-printing.131855/

Rick painted them after printing. I checked them when I received them and they flexed pretty much. They sat on my workbench in the not THERR RV for a week before I got out there and ready to put them in. They where brittle again.:( Like I said earlier....I broke more then I got installed . Rick and I knew they would be brittle and I accepted that. After days and days of frustration THE WIFE applied White School Glue to them. This made them pliable enough to get them on the layout. A little background on J&J Horse Ranch.....

Back in the mid 80's's my wifes mom and grandma and their husbands managed a horse ranch in Cave Creek Az. About 5 years in... both her moms husband and her granfather passed away.:(

Her Mom and Grandma managed that ranch for another 10 years...by themselves !!

I was going to make that area on the layout a mobile home park...until I realized how expensive that could be. Which leads us to J&J Horse Ranch. The J&J where the first initials of both her mom and her grandmothers names.

Her mom always said she wanted a horse ranch with white 3 rail fencing. She was obsessed with the idea. Her mom passed away from cancer and her grandma passed away in the mid 2000's :(:(

When I told my wife I gave up on the mobile home park. She 'suggested' the horse ranch.

Now...you guys know what it means when a woman 'suggests' something !;)

Ya dont stay happily married for 35 years by not paying attention.....:LOL:

"If the momma aint happy....aint nobodys happy!";)

    Thus...

J&J Horse Ranch became part of our layout. (y)(y)

Yes... there is a noisy scrap yard and a noisy cement plamt right accross the road that I am sure would scare the H*ll outta the horses...BUT....its the thought that counts...;)

That came together nicely. The white color definitely screams horse ranch for sure. That is a cool background for why the horse ranch. Smart man! As for placement, the horses will adjust to that noise so all will be well. Now that the fencing is installed, what's next?

Actually, they are 0.021" thick (approx 3/128"), plus the thickness of the paint. ;)

    EPIC FAIL !!

So I bought 4 jars of Woodland Scenics turf...

Figuring I could finish some areas that where still just painted wood. Even touch up some places that through the years developed worn areas.

I always used white glue in the past. 50/50 mix with water and sometimes straight white glue. This WS :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: wont glue down !!! I spread the glue...sifted the turf over it as usual. Waited 4 HOURS !! Went out to lightly dust any excess off. I use multiple soft supple makeup brushes my wife gave me when she bought new ones.

:censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: None of the WS turf stuck !!!!

It's like I just sprinkled the turf on bare wood with NO GLUE !!

    My first....AND LAST time using Woodland Scenic...anything !! Grrrrrrrrrrrr:censored:@#$

Sounds like they switched material used for their scenic products Since I have been using Elmer's white glue both straight and diluted. Then again maybe Elmer's changed their glue composition.

That is very odd? I have been using Woodland Scenic "ground foam" scenic material since the early 1980's and have never had any issues. The only product I don't use from Woodland Scenic is their ballast. I prefer real rock ballast from Smith & Son and Arizona Rock & Minerals. My method is to sprinkle the turf on the area being covered. Then with a fine misting bottle I spray the turf with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, get it wet but not to the point where it's flooded. Next comes a 3:1 water and Elmer's White Glue mixture (Yes 3 parts water, 1 part glue). Using a pipette or old Elmer's squeeze bottle, gently flood the area with the glue until all of the turf looks like it's in a while glue swamp. Let dry overnight and you should be set.

I too have always put turf down first, then glue and never had any problems. My technique is pretty much the same as Rich's.

    I would try Rich's method.

Wife says its the humidity not allowing the glue to dry. 6 hours???? hmmmmmm.
I will check it again in the mornin. White glue...should dry rather quickly I would think...humidity not withstanding.

Just found it it was 95 degrees here today with a humidity of 76% !!!:censored:

Maybe THE WIFE was right....humidity may have played a role in the whole mess.:coffee:

Shhhhhhhh...dont tell her I said that !!!

    * It's supposed to be 95 again tomorrow but humidity at only 30%. Stay tuned. If I dont go ballistic I'll let ya know who it goes.;):cautious::censored:

It may be overkill but anytime I use white glue for scenery (and yes, I do use W/S materials :D), I always let it sit at least 24 hours. Of course, there is no such thing as low humidity in the southeast (even indoors ) so I have to take that into account as well.

And you have to get that "The wife is always right" stuff learned sir! Just sayin'

I have used the plain old white Elemer's school glue for years now and now I live in a Maritime province and yo know what that means. Humidty and lots of it. Currently it is 83 Deg. F. with 86% humidity. I have built a layout since I have moved here in the last several years and have had to wait as long as a day and a half to two days for things to set at times. So most likely the Wife is right, they usually are. Been married over 51 years now. And too the same woman.
