I just purchased a New HO Atlas RS-3 Amtrak #102 with LOK Sound DCC. I have a Digitrax system I have had for 10 years and I have app 25 DCC equipped locomotives.

This is the first New locomotive I have bought in several years and for the life of me I cannot get it to program anything. I have tried on my stand alone program track and on the mainline and neither works. The only thing works is the default #3

Has anyone ran into this and can you advise?

    Thanks

Can you read any of the CV's on your programming track?

If you can read CV's but can't write (program them), then I would try resetting the decoder to factory defaults - set CV8 = 8. Then take the engine off the track for 10 seconds, and try reprogramming again.

It is possible that someone set a programming lock, either deliberately or by accident in CV's 15 and 16. Resetting the decoder to factory defaults will remove any lock if it is there.

    OK-

I have already done that twice. CV8 to 8 - hold one side up for 10 seconds and it still goes back to the default. I have a program track - put the loco on it - go to Pg, select ad4 - put on 0102 - the program writes it and makes a little noise, then I exit afterward I go back to Pg and enter CV29-38, enter and the exit again. When I set the locomotive on the main line with no power and then turn it on I have nothing. Then I go back to the factory default. Could my Digitrax Chief need an upgrade?

It IS possible that you need to update your command station; you might want to do a search on Digitrax's web site and see if they address this. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the oldest versions of the Digitrax firmware had problems programming ESU decoders.
