When did MTL start body mounting freight cars?

So, if I'm reading this right, MT is going to lower, more prototypical ride height, and body mount couplers, with less prototypical, longer coupler shank lengths, so customers can run on the "smaller" (unspecified?) radius curves (or, more importantly, more abrupt radius transitions)?

Are the new minimum radius capabilities the same as the old (not including backing up), for the same car?

Jake, Yes, you are reading it right. I think that the minimum capabilities are probably similar to the old, nominally 9.75 inch radius. I placed them on my smallest radius curve that I have installed, 12 inch but they look as if they would work on 9.75 inches. Otherwise, I think that MT would have a lot of equipment returned for not working on 9.75 inch curves! - Tonkphilip

One other relatively minor data point: The Kadee and Micro-Trains cabooses have always had body mounted couplers since their introduction in the mid-1970s (too lazy to check the exact date).

I'll admit, I really like the body mounts that MT is doing. There is one issue though, if one comes loose from the car, man are those screws that hold on the factory body mounts small. I have a set of jewelers screw drives and still not sure I have one that small. Maybe MT might consider selling a screwdriver for such repairs :)
