Wow, is it Friday already? I need to get something going here. I have been spending so much time on a major project up at the Armadillo Ranch that I have lost track of what day it is. Keeps me isolated anyway. Here is an oldie of what had been the Santa Fe Ranger. It kind of lost its name when the Texas Chief took over as the premier train between Chicago and Houston.
Good evening from sunny, hot and humid Northeast Ohio! IMRC ART Reefer Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow, Boxcar Red and Black Paints and lettered with Mask Island Decals that are only available from the MP historical society. ART was founded by the MP and Wabash (Both owned by Gould at the time) to supply refridgerator cars for perishiable shipping. Walther's PS 4427 Kit, that I am using as a stand-in for the Bethlehem 4456 CF Covered Hopper (Of which we will never see a model of). Installed a Plano Roofwalk and added the outside airline on the side of the car. Painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray paint and lettered with Islington Station Products decals, this is the last car of five I have done as I am out of decals. Car was used to move malt from Michigan via car ferry to the breweries in Wisconsin. I got my new Athearn GP40-2's so I tried them out at the club last week, here they are with a general freight headed up by my fleet of RBL and XLI boxcars in Campbell's Soup service out of Napoleon, OH. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
^^^^ Got to have malt to brew your beer in Wisconsin. I remember my uncle had a special refrigerator in his basement in Milwaukee that held a keg. Always plenty of cold brew on tap when I would drop in for a visit.
Living off the archives again this week. I did this Walthers car several years ago for a weathering contest on another forum. It's a little hard to see in the picture, but most of the weathering on the roof was black crap rather than rust. After all, it's a steam era car. Made the decals on the Alps printer. The drawing shown is both the diagram and the artwork. "Dust" was applied with a rattle can and the roof received an alcohol and India ink wash.
Hi Guys, You may have noticed I haven't been on here or posting very much. I had major abdominal surgery in May. It started in April. I'm getting better everyday. I lost 40 lbs. while in the hospital. Mom's cooking is taking care of that! I haven't seen my layout since 4/15/20. I'm hoping to get downstairs within the next 2 weeks or sooner.
Hoping you have a quick recovery and will get to your layout soon. Working on it is great therapy and will help you forget lifes troubles for a little bit. Joe
The ILLUSION of Z-Scale: 1) We can dive deep into the layout, looks a little bit like HO, or? 2) ....., but here you see how small 1:220 really is!!! 3) And it is BIG fun......... Enjoy your WE! Sven
Thank you for the snow scenes, it's 93 here in Tulsa area with high humidity and your photos make it a little cooler. Really like your work. Joe
I never cease to be amazed by what Sven is doing in Z scale. That whole diorama is only about four beers long? Wow! Just Wow.
Mike hope you are feeling better soon. No run by this weekend. Busier than I planned on Saturday. Tonight I was/am dealing with a emergency repair. The window air conditioner in our bedroom was leaking water and it was getting in under the frame and coming through the wall. I had to pull the unit out and put another one in there. I have a wall repair in my future now. I do, however, have a couple of photos. First is two post-PRR paint scheme Bachmann GG1's. One for AMTRAK the other Penn Central. Second one is Proto 2000 E8/9A's. One for Baltimore & Ohio, the other Pennsylvania.
GG1's look good no matter what color you paint them. Not sure I ever saw that particular Amtrak scheme. but it looks really good on the old beast. Nice looking E units, too.
