Welcome back everyone to the gateway of the weekend. I bet many of us are trying to stay cool as summer is really bearing down on us. Monday's thread was two pages! Looks like summer has some you busy and that's great. I read on Thursday from the local train club that all train shows in Illinois as well as Trainfest in Milwaukee are cancelled. With attendance down on a few of our local shows in the past, I'm thinking many of these shows will not return next year, a sign of the times. With that said, I have no timeline to work towards so most of my free time is in research. Let's get started. Saturday: Work. Sunday: Busy day that will include mowing, yard work and tending to the garden. I doubt I'll work on anything train related. So how about you? What do you have planned for the weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 20th to see how you all did. Until then, stay healthy, safe, hydrated and as always... High Greens!
The normal afternoon monsoon rain shower pattern has set up down here on the coast, which means my grass is growing like gangbusters. So there will be mowing. Its enough to make a man consider goats. And the pool is in heavy rotational use from the kids, so it also requires a bit of attention. I find daily water testing by self immersion the best way to know what's going on. Trainwise I have three building kits in some form of construction, two tank cars in the stripping bath, along with an Intermountain SD40-2 shell. Since no manufacturer has made the white KCS icon in N scale, I'm going to roll my own. I'm also slowly setting up my rolling stock inventory and switchlist generator so I can get on with proper operations.
I should be able to finish the SW8, SW900 and S-2's this weekend (I hope) - LOL I'll start the window treatments for Oxnard's downtown buildings. Y'all have a great and very safe weekend, - catch Y'all on the other side Wolf
Another busy weekend for me. I've got 19 covered hoppers taking a bath in some stripper. It's supposed to be blazing hot this weekend here in NE Missouri so I'll be playing it by ear as to when they all get a primmer coat. Installing trucks on the 16 cars that I showed off last week. Also more kit building using some detail parts that were ordered. I have an engine kit bash that I've been wanting to do for years so depending on my ambition level it might get started. I bought a ham hock the other day to make ham and bean soup. Been having a hankering for it for some time now. Corn bread too. And of course all of my other usual food suspects will get made. Enjoy your time and stay cool.
No modeling plans, but I am getting some stuff in the mail. I've been planning an HO Scale switching layout in my head for a while. After I picked up my Atlas Central California Traction GP7 with DCC and sound, I ordered a Athearn/Roundhouse wood caboose that I'd like to light and do the interior. I also have a Bachmann 4-6-0 and 4-4-0 on order if I decide to run some steam.
The "Dog Treat" factory in the background this weekend. My plan is to work on that building this weekend and move it along. It needs some roofing and parapet work. Actually, time permitting, my plan this weekend is to give some love to all the buildings along the front of the layout. They each need some "attention". Happy Friday!
Well, I hope to finish a new (non-model RR) page on my web site, of my Erie RR train order collection. And am probably going to order an HOn30 caboose from Japan. Been holding off due to shipping slowdowns, during these past few months. But I really want one. So......
Daily immersion test, hah! It is to laugh. Not to be a know it all, but I recommend sheep rather than goats. Goats are most closely related to deer and are browsers. I specifically recommend a "hair" sheep breed to avoid shearing chores. Dorper, St. Croix, Khatahdin, Barbary breeds come to mind. Good luck with the model rr stuff.
As of today, I have returned four upgraded railcars to the module. I have five more in the pipeline. Seven still need reporting marks even though some are in service. Covered hopper and shifter need repairs. I am going to try to do a pic soon.
I will continue with clearing off the layout in anticipation of beginning the remaking. Hopefully I can finish packing up the locos. Then there is some rolling stock that do not have boxes of don't fit in their original boxes.
The heat index here 4 of the last 6 days was above 105F. Sheep don't appear (at a distance) to do well in such environments.
Already been a good week so I am looking forward to the weekend. For those who tuned in last weekend, the COVID-19 test was negative which meant the colonoscopy was on for Wednesday. That was a success so I get a five-year reprieve. PSA: I highly recommend you have a colonoscopy if you have never had one. It may extend your model-building years. I also got to do a little modeling yesterday. Here is the current state of UP2295's tender: The lower parts of the coal bunker on the tender bottom are new. The cab-roof clearance cutouts on the collar are also new. Lots of hand trimming as the N-scale torch is hard to control. Next up is filling some seams with putty. Then I need to make the unique tool box under the engineer's side of the coal bunker. Again, photos of UP2295 are readily available on the web for anyone who wants to see what that is. Stay safe. Take care of each other.
I am continuing with my vacation. I have had a very productive one so far. I finished two scratch builds. First the aircraft hangar last week and yesterday the WP depot I started last September. Now I have some House keeping to do. In other words I made a total mess that needs cleaning up. I also have a structure with an interior issue that I need to fix. The electronics aren’t working right. I will get that done tomorrow then I’m off camping until Wednesday. I hope to get the plans drawn up for the last structure for my module I’m working on. Here is the depot.
Most likely will not get to my rail projects this weekend. I will be replacing radiator, maybe thermostat and all hoses on my 2001 GMC Sierra. Great deal tho, tomorrow is only supposed to reach 99*. Enjoy your weekends but above all, be safe, Carl
Have a new flatbed trailer kit to work on. Not sure where else I will wander to on the layout or workbench. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
