Welcome back everyone, I hope you had a great long weekend and enjoyed some hobby time within the celebrations. Let's get started. SATURDAY: As planned, I slept in a bit as Angela had surprised me with a Birthday meal the night before at our favorite German restaurant. With my Earl Grey in hand, I went into the work shop and started switching the layout and finding more faults with my layout. This is why it is easier for me to model from the prototype! I spent more time on Google Earth looking at areas in Maine and New Hampshire to model. The search continues. The rest of the day was spent getting ready for our 4th of July cook out and fireworks display. We had a good crowd made up of train buddies and family. We had a small fireworks display and out of respect for my neighbors, had everything shut down by 10:00. It was a great time and we plan to do it again next year. Sunday: Both Angela and I were exhausted from yard prep the day before so we were lazy. I spent more time frustrating myself with my poor choices in track design and looked to Google Earth for answers. Pretty much a lazy day. So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. Saturday - made good progress on decaling a couple of Atlas S-2's - then we went down the street for a wonderful evening at my sister's house Sunday - Continued decaling the S-2's and started the decal process on my SW8 I made more progress on downtown Saticoy. Greetings. Didn't get "everything" done I wanted, but made progress on the Albemarle Station scene. Airbrushed, assembled, and weathered the Albemarle Divsion headquarters office that sits beside the station. Only needs signage and "landscaping" to finish it out. This is a Vollmer kit that I attempted to "Americanize" so to speak. Made a lot of progress on my AutoCad drawing of the layout that will actually be a "signaling" plan by which the signal system will be built. Airbrushed and started putting together the long passenger platform that will sit on the west side of the station building. Here's a shot of the Division Office:
Decals. Painting and lettering 125 uniquely numbered iron ore cars cars seemed like a good idea...After 25 cars I was already sick of them. after 50 cars I got into a groove, after 75 cars I bought a box to store them away. After 100 cars I thought well there's only 25 more to go. Now I'm down to the last 15, they are on the bench staring at me.. I still need to install the Shapeways coupler pockets for the scale Micro Trains couplers, add trucks and wheels (expensive) and find a place to run 125 car ore train. Now I've been slowly picking up some Fine N Scale taconite loads and extensions for the Atlas ore car and a few cheap cars off of E Bay, what is wrong with me?
My weekend was productive as usual. Did the house chores and cooking. I finally made the shrimp and pasta dish. WOW. The sauce was wine, olive oil, butter, lemon, red pepper flakes, shallots, garlic and thyme. I'll be making this again real soon. As far as trains I assembled more kits and gloss coated and decaled a few others. I'll post some pictures next week when I get the final clear coat on them. I'm looking forward to trying out my new photo studio light box. Some weird wild web research turned up nothing for some proto pictures I need for a project. I reached out to a historical society that is looking into it for me. Fingers crossed. Enjoy the week and as usual be happy, safe and stay positive.
Mostly the same as Jim, a bit lazy. Fiddled a bit with a handrail idea for a critter shell. Wildly thinking perhaps done by tonight and finally finish paint. Ha ha ha. Probably not..... Oh well.
It was a nice weekend but as bremner stated it was hot, 103* I think, but that kept me inside. Between all the auto races on Saturday and Sunday, I did not get both of my trucks finished. However, I did complete the one that I drove back in the day............................. This was Chevron's 1st color scheme ventured away from the old standard red/white/blue. Oh BTW, I plan on doing one of those old tankers too. I can see some sloppy work on the mud flaps that will be corrected before I spray it with gloss decal sealer. That's what is nice about photos, all flaws are right there in your face. The other truck may be finished later today. Thanks for looking and most importantly, stay well, Carl
Lots of little things worked on over the weekend. Added some trees to the layout. Painted, assembled, and decaled a propane tank trailer, painted a big sphere shaped propane storage tank, worked on decaling a crane, and started on one of those M/T Boeing aircraft car and plane sets. Also just spent some time running trains. All in all a good but what seemed all too short weekend. Hope you all have a great week!
Great weekend, I got a lot done. Saturday: first thing I did was paint the parts for the aircraft hangar. It is now ready for window glass and assembly so I can draw up the plans for the rafters. I then got busy installing the sound cards. 2 chain saws for the logging camp (only o e works for some reason) Rocks falling down a chute for the mine dump house Saw mill Kids playing in the park Switched out one already installled. The industrial one was a bit loud so put one in that I could adjust the sound on. After all that I did some fixing of the mine dump Building. This is a scratch build I did last year. Needed some paint touch up, fixed a wall support, hooked the wiring up for the sound card and got the lights that were first installed working Saturday/ Sunday: Then I hit the saw mill. Six structures needing paint and weathering. This was one of the industries I built years ago with plans on returning and doing the finishing work. I painted the roof and all Corrugated siding with aluminum paint, other structures received polished steel paint. After that I pulled the airbrush out and painted the rafters, doors, floors, conveyors, and anything else I could get to. After all the painting I hit it hard with the pastel chalks. Came out looking better. With the finishing touches and the sound card the area actually looks pretty finished on the layout. I even built two lights and placed them above the man doors to finish it all off.
K. Anderson, good stuff! Been working on track and turnout upgrades. Got turnouts installed Sun. Just put down about fifty percent of the new track after fabricating the same. I should have this project finished soon. All have a good and safe week.
Not a lot done. Finished weathering the replacement trucks for the pickle tank car. Replace the hook and horn coupler on my newly acquired Mantua NYO&W 2-8-2 camelback. The pocket would not fit a Kadee #5. I used a Bachmann EZ-mate until the Kadee #148 couplers arrived. I ran the loco pulling the 8 reefers and caboose from the Modeling Weekend Photo thread. It did well with no problems other than a few areas where the trackwork is iffy. It is loud and whiny. I plan on lubricating the gears once the gear lubricate is delivered.
