Welcome back everyone! To all my fellow Americans, Happy Independence Day Weekend! It looks like everyone had a a busy weekend last weekend, let's see what everyone gets accomplished this week. SATURDAY: In observance of the 4th, the dealership will be closed which means, I get a weekend! I do plan on sleeping in a bit and playing with the B&M layout a bit but not for long. I've planned a little get together at my place for the 4th. Also, as of yesterday, the state of Illinois is officially open! This will make tomorrows festivities even better. Sunday: I'm not planning anything. I may sleep in and see about dropping the top on Jess and taking Angela out for a much needed mini road trip and a visit to one of our favorite eating establishments. I may even finally find the prototype trackage needed to model my B&M switching layout, albeit from Google Earth. Ah how I miss my native state. So how about you? What do you have planned today through Monday? How many have Friday off? How many have Monday off? You retired guys in the back, put your hands down. We know you have 7 day weekends now! For the rest of us? Let us know. We'll assemble back again on Monday the 6th to see how we all did. BONUS ROUND: Post pictures of your Bicentennial or red, white and blue locomotives and rolling stock on your layout. Here is my faithful switcher for the B&M layout, complete with her Bicentennial stripe and Minuteman. Let's see your red, white and blue equipment! Until then, have a great long weekend, stay safe, be healthy and as always... HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY USA! & High Greens!
Sounds like you have a good weekend lined up Jim. Hope you have fun. Count me in the group that has Friday "off". We have facilities that are running today so still on call if needed. Friday will include putting a new battery in the wife's car and working on a few honey do's plus hopefully some train time. Will probably start to work on the new propane taker truck. Saturday we are having some friends over for the first time since this whole pandemic thing started. That will consume the better part of the day. Sunday is back to the layout. At this point, I am not sure what I will tackle next so its a TBD day. I wish you all a happy and safe 4th of July Independence Day of as my buddy from England says, Happy Traitors Day!
My weekend starts today as well. So, I hope to get quite a bit done. Today - Gloss coat on the SW8 and a couple of S-2's Tomorrow and Sunday - decals on the above - hope to finish. Y'all have a great and very safe Independence day weekend!! Wolf
Speaking of the 4th, I found M-T's 38110 South Carolina Bicentennial Boxcar on eBay a year ago and picked it up for about $12 with shipping as I recall. This car was released in August 1976. It's been my home state for quite a few years, so wanted it. There were 13 cars in the series and they don't attract much interest amongst collectors it seems. I now have all of the states in the series that I've lived in -- VA, MD, MA, NJ and SC. There was also a caboose for the series which I don't have.
I did some more work on the airplane hangar last night. It’s ready for paint then window glass then assembly starts. I will then build the rafters, paint them then add the roof. Hope to get some of that done this weekend. I also need to install some electronics and start weathering a group of sawmill buildings.
I couldn't afford M-T's caboose as a kid, so bought Bachmann's Item 5412 instead. I still run it. It brings back some nice memories.
Happy Fourth to all! This week has been busy but slow. Four out of seven of the turnouts remain to be installed. I have most of the components fabricated. Hopefully, I will get them done shortly. I did have a little boo-boo in laying a short section of track out of gauge. It did not take too long to correct. As the man said, "High Greens"!
All I have planned for this week is switching the layout in the morning. I have discovered that one of the switches needs replacement and I need a pair of pieces of flex for the staging.
Happy 4th all! Our office is closed today, so I got a jump on things. More work on the Albemarle Passenger station. This weekend I plan on building a new "Albemarle Sub-Division" office. I am using the same small Vollmer kit I built years ago for my previous layout. I was going to use the one I had but it was air-brushed brick and concrete. I thought about popping the windows, roof, and steps off and repainting but that proved to be messy. I just got a new in the mail this week from EuroHobbies and have been painting it white as well as other colors for the trim. My goal w/ the station scene is to use a well manicured scene, white buildings and trim similar to the 40's/50's look at the C&O station complex at White Sulphur Springs, WV. Somewhat different station and architecture I'm using, but similar feel (If I pull it off). Here's a shot of the White Sulphur Springs passenger station: In any event, pictures come Monday. Happy hot dogs, spirits-of-choice, and firecrackers all!
I need to finish weathering trucks for one of the pickle tank cars. After that I am not sure what I will be doing.
Going to get Masonite Sunday for the fascia and background for modules 01 thru 07 and overhead valence fascia. Also will finish building another overhead valence for modules 01 thru 03 and hang it from the ceiling. Joe
I'm feeling a lack of enthusiasm and motivation this evening. I did a bit of kit building and decaling today and my heart just wasn't in to it. Hopefully tomorrow will be different. I have 16 models in progress to look forward to. Got all of the household chores to attend to. Oh boy. Getting through that should make modeling more enjoyable. And as always food stuffs to prepare for the week to come. Enjoy celebrating our independence and freedom. We are truly blessed.
I plan, and we all know what can happen to plans, to complete my 2 Chevron tank trucks. Perhaps on Monday I can post images. I just posted these in another thread but twice is OK. Happy 4th........... Some of you have seen this picture but since I painted 2 of them and decoderized all 3, I enjoy showing them and my module off. Stay well, Carl
I plan on putting some paint on about a dozen passenger cars this weekend. and BBQ for the wife and myself.
