Union Pacific's Seattle "Shop Critter" Spotted this little "Rail King" at the UP's Seattle Diesel house.
A few I found on computer! One of several small diesels, Georgetown Loop Railroad. Silver Plume shops. Former Kopper pressure treatment plant switcher. Removed from service. Replaced with Track Mobile. Track Mobile, switching industry, Denver. US Army switcher. Museum switcher for the Illinois Railroad Museum.
At the Martindale Feed Mill in Valley View, Texas. November, 2017. Also at the feed mill, this GE 25 ton critter is one of only two former MKT diesel locomotives left. Numbered as 400, it was used at the MKT tie plant in Denison, TX. It is now being restored at the Oklahoma Railway Museum in Oklahoma City. This EMD SW 8 was US Army 2034 but it has been painted to represent an MKT locomotive and given a number that would have likely been assigned to such an engine if Katy had owned it. It is now at the Oklahoma Railway Museum and used to run excursions.
Odd that the first loco, #147, has the exhaust stacks facing away sideways. Maybe away from the building so to not send out sparks to the building? Love the Katy painted switcher!!
Two critters as spotted at Ringoes, NJ on the Black River & Western in the early 1980s -- a Mack built in '27 and a Davenport. I don't think either was operable at the time, but the li'l Mack actually toted two passenger cars on a fun "Director's Special" when the road was new and had to stop several times to avoid overheating.
I thought that I would revisit this image of a GE 25 ton critter and see if I could adjust the contrast a bit to bring out more details.
Built by Vulcan Iron Works in 1941, this critter is at her birthplace city of Wilkes-Barre, PA. I took this picture in 10/1981 and I'm uncertain what has become of it.
Looks like she was in a collection of older equipment. Maybe all were intended for an eventual museum setting?
There is/was a rail-oriented hotel and you're right, they'd collected a bunch of equipment. I'm not sure if the hotel exists anymore. A few days ago I found a photo of the same Vulcan locomotive, but the photographer (or webmaster) neglected to record the date of the picture and I don't know if it was taken before or after mine of 10/04/1981.
The TrackMobile which serves CHS, in Kalispell, Montana. Caught it on a snowy winter day, about fifteen years ago. These elevators have been abandoned and are presently being removed. A new facility was built outside of town and opened just this year. So this critter now has a new location.
