Ok took out a track from the yard.. from Center of outside track I have 2 inches.. from edge i have 1.5".. Also I will extent Fascia board about 1/2 inch up on outside to protect... It is hard not to have straight track on North end of wall block due to using Kato Unitrack.. but I can use Mike Fifer technique of making Unitrack flex a little .. but if I mess up I am going back to straight tarck on top end..
I extended my fascia board up enough to create a barrier allowing me to have track within an inch and a half and a few spots to have track drop as close as 1 inch. That way even a double or triple headed lashup of locos cannot push one over the edge.
George has done well with his layout. And while many have waited to get their layouts published his got that honor rather quickly. So congratulations George. I will get to the current topic in just a second. I need to build this up, first. My friends back in Big Bear Country, CA., gave me the nick of "More Track Rick." The more track, the more things to do on a layout the better I like it. You've managed that in your plans as seen below. You have an "Entertainment" layout. What you've done here with your plans makes this a very interesting layout. You have plenty of main line with a considerable amount of things for a local working switch jobs to do. A through freight, passenger trains on your double track main will make running trains a lot more interesting. I know there's been changes suggested but I liked the plan right out of the box, from your first posting. One other thing I noted. Although dead end spurs for now, they give you room to grow. Believe me you will want for your layout to grow. Just one thing to consider. On your upper dead end spurs. They need to run downward from the switch. Gravity will keep your train cars parked in them. You don't want them running back down the hill except for laughs and giggles. Enjoy and have fun with it.
I leveled out the mine tracks after running uphill to mine.. I thought the same thing ... I didn’t want cars leaving the mine on their own... haha
I didn’t read all the comments, but it’s really similar to the MRR Salt Lake in the “feel” of it, you may want to check that out for some (imo) “neat” ideas for inner spurs.
I'm not a fan of having to push cuts of cars up the incline to the mine tracks. I'd prefer to have a run-around track at the top, with the mine sidings reconfigured.
