Well I am at it again. I just received a kit from Royale Models that will allow me to build the truck that I drove for Chevron out of the Albuquerque terminal back in late 1960's. This unit will be painted in Chevron's 1st departure from red/white/blue color schemes that was unique at the time. It will be black/white and beige. I have paints due in on Monday.

It is a COE Kenworth with the day cab that will have a 4,500 gallon tank on tractor and will have a 5,500 gallon pup. Why this? I want a reminder of why my back and kidneys hurt sometimes? ? ?

Here is a piece of a tank to show my idea, will make a new one...............

I have no attachment to Royale Models other than being a pleased customer, so I will say these are some of the best printed models I have seen. I know this is delicate but look at the small detail (placard holder). This will take some time to do a good job.

Stay well, thanks for looking, and I will post progress,

    Carl

First day success, I was able to cut away all the supports without breaking anything. This stuff is fine and delicate.............

As always, have fun but most importantly stay well,
    Carl

PS: I found a rig similar to what I will build. This tractor is a Freightliner and the build is a KW. We did not have the large cabinet on drivers (street) side but rather all cabinets were on the curbside of the tanks. This is a good sample of the paint scheme I will do........

    Should be fun and rewarding.

Well it has almost been a month since I started this build and post. Been working on finishing the TTG paint scheme on my Challenger. That is completed so here goes the truck build................

Actually these represent 2 different trucks. The 2 tanks are for another build using a Shapeways Pete tractor.
This tractor is a KW and I have tanks coming for it. Check out the detail on this tractor, I am real impressed with this print job.
Stay tuned, I will post more often.

    Stay well,
    Carl

What type of 3D printer are you using?
    The detail looks great!

Thanks for the comment Hemi. I am not printing these but rather purchased from John Lowry (Royale Models). They are very nicely detailed and as expected they are very delicate. I have managed, so far, not to break off the mirrors but when I get to the paint part of build and try masking I am most likely not going to get away with saving them. The stuff glues back together easily with CA.

It has been a while, so here is an update. The tanks in the above post will not go on this build but rather another that is working as well. Instead, I just received the tank for the tractor and the pup trailer from Royale. Here are 3 images, actually I have removed all the supports and applied my 1st coat of primer since taking these pics...............................

It's been a week, so time for an update. These were airbrushed today with Tru-Color paints. I have two projects working so here is #1..................................

My black/white/beige KW day cab Chevron, body load and pup, same as I drove back in the day. After this paint dries for 3-4 days, I will mask off and paint the beige on the bottom of the tanks, and the white on top of the cab. Finally I'll mask off and paint the trough and rails black. Then the part I enjoy, the details and decals. Lot more to do..............

The 2nd project at the rear of the one image is a Shapeways tractor and Route 66 tanks that are bashed. This will get grey on the chassis as well as the bottoms of the tanks and the trough rails, that is closer to current Chevron paint scheme. Can you tell, I spent 33 years with Chevron.........

Thanks for looking but of the utmost : be well!!!

Another week has passed and projects are not complete, but I have made progress. Added 2nd color to each rig and have only some small added masking to do on the tanks and on the COE cab so I can add the white. I will let the beige and grey dry for 5-6 days before I handle them much.

Good lookin trucks. I have yet to venture into this department of N scale as I have yet to finish a layout enough for vehicles. It looks as though I will have to bug John for a few kits next time I see him!! I kinda wanna make an Optimus Prime truck (Freightliner COE with sleeper and 48' trailer, the original version of Prime!!) just to hide on my layout as an easter egg.

Actually Massey the original cartoon Optimus Prime was Based off a Marmon Cabover.

Like in the 3rd or 4th transformers movie.

Look at the 3 trucks side by side and I would say they are just about based on each other as well LOL. I remember my Prime having an oval on it's grille which is why I always assumed Freightliner. I had a neighbor who drove one and looked almost the same... But that is to a 10 or 11 year old kid too!
