Here's an update on the Dairy Queen. I've completed about 95% of the assembly. I need to finish the painting on the facade of the front entrance and insert the door and glass once painted.

The roof needs paint and asphalt and all the signage is still yet to go in place.

I must say that I'm not overly impressed by the fit of the orange sections along the roof. I had to sand more than I should have to to get them to fit in their slot and there is still a small open seam on the edge. I'll have to use some Mr. Dissolved Putty to fill them in and repaint along the seam. Not happy about that, but oh well.

    More soon.

Just finished the front entrance paint job. It starts with primer and then a wash with Tamiya panel line accent black.

Then, just like any brickwork, it's random colors until you are satisfied.

    Time for bed.

So the first building I ever started for the RGW is one of the last I'm going to work on, Boeing's Renton 737 plant.

Tonight I wanted to check clearance to assure the 737 cars would fit easily, and they do. Then to add the sides, which have been left undone for years. I added the corrugated side panels, then covered all of the exposed edges in L channel. Here's how they turned out. West side, then east side.

They don't sit flush just yet as the backdrop is not plumb, so I need to adjust the velcro in the back, but that's easy.

I need to try and figure out how to best incorporate the retractable main door before I can safely paint this beast. It parts from the middle to reach each side in multiple panels. See below:

That will be part of tomorrow's tasks. Suggestions welcome.

    Thanks for checking in.

Well, the doors are around 12” thick from eye-balling it. Why not make them out of Masonite hardboard 1/8” thick? That would be pretty rigid. As far as the actual graphic, maybe have a custom sized backdrop printed and laminate it to the hardboard? That’s my thought.

Good luck Michael, that’s going to be a showpiece.

Taking a detour, worked out an idea on how to automate the doors on the Boeing building, but I need to make a list and head to the store. So in the interim, I'm going to build the catwalks for Palmer Coke & Coal's Old Mine #1 in Black Diamond.

Purchased a number of Tichy 8001 kits to pull this off. Going to build it around 270° of the building. It will have at least two separate stairs to ground level.

Now that I have this down off the layout (and I only want to do this once), I just might update the layers of rust with all the Mig products I have acquired since building this kit.

    We'll see.

I kitbashed this into a different looking building from the original. You should see all the parts in the box; especially windows.

Catwalk done. Need to build the support frame and paint it before final install. If you don't use blutack, you should. It's fabulous for moments like this. You can see it under the ladders. Sticks where you want it to, peels off when you're done; without leaving a residue.

Enough for one day, I'm starting to hear the songs on my Spotify play list for the 3rd time. Night all.

Looks great gives me ideas M.

One thing I noticed might just be my imagination but the head house looks like a grain elevator.

After dinner I was able to get the catwalk glued in place, then did a quick test on the layout to assure myself the inner most ladder will still land on the concrete and not in the middle of a track.

After that, I painted the ladders and while they dry, I started on the steel catwalk supports.

That's it for me tonight. Thanks for checking in.
