Anyone ever convert an N Scale Atlas 2-8-2 to DCC?

    Has anyone here ever convert an Atlas 2-8-2 to DCC? I inherited a really smooth running loco and I am about to start investing into converting my roster to DCC, and would love some tips.

    If you are talking about the ones that have the brass gearing, YES.
    BUT, I don’t think is was worth the effort. Too much gear noise, and hard to get the motor isolated .
    I would find a better loco to do.

    I used bits and pieces from Kato passenger car trucks to create all wheel electrical pickup for the decoder. Made a big difference. I braided fine transformer wire to transfer electrical contact from the truck side frames to the decoder wires.

    That one is a much later version than the one I had in mind and converted.
    That one looks doable.
