Wait! Is this why Lysol sprays are out of stock everywhere - because everyone is spraying the items coming into their homes with it? :D

We normally stock it in our house and use it for cleaning and disinfectant and the same with Chlorox. I have started using it to disinfect packages depending on where they come from in the last month. I believe that folks have bought way more than they need. One spray can last us more than 2-3 months.

I've been working on my Santa Fe, Union Pacific and Southern Pacific mail trains. You can't accuse me of not being diversified. I was interested in Micro-Trains, recently announced Santa Fe Mail train. I already have one that is by far more authentic as per Arbomambo's scratch building efforts. I need to get MTL trucks on them and get them back into service. So buying up HW passenger trucks as my budget allows.

I purchased several cars for my SP and UP mail train. Suddenly I had to have a Great Northern mail train. What? What?

I can't find the correctly windowed AT&SF RPO. So holding back on anymore presents for my Santa Fe mail train.

After recovering from the things a move does to a person. I'm getting about to restoring my old layout so, concentrating on things I need to get it back up and running.

You know you are old when you see exactly what you wanted, but you can not remember where you saw it. At least that is how I see it.

Rick, my friend, there was a guy somewhere with his own 3D printer making exactly what you and I are looking for. Maybe Mr Spock or some other Vulcan can scan my brain for that information. If I retrieve it, you will be the first person I contact!

Hey David / Sharkman, and of course anyone else tuned in here.

Remember what? It was or it could be, no not that, ok maybe, no that wasn't it either. LOL

That's why I leave myself notes and then forget why I wrote them. Grin.

What's this note, ok that's to remind myself to lock the doors at night. Funny how that works or doesn't.

If only MTL would make the correct windowed Santa Fe RPO car. Sigh! Knock, knock anyone listening?

David, I think what you saw was a Bachmann run which is almost right but not quite.

From the side door Reefer: Have you seen the old Atlas, PMI and Lima Passenger car stuff on E-pay as of recent? The prices they are asking for? Aiiyiiyii !! Did someone forget how much these originally went for? They are charging today's production prices (like they are the crowned jewels) for this old Rapido Coupler-ed ($#!+) err stuff !! If they'd, put MTL trucks and knuckle couplers on them I might (probably not) be interested in paying the price they are asking.

They weren't worth the original prices back when. Harrumph !!

Excuse me... while I go grumble for awhile. $$@#^&*$!@

Oh and stay away from the two Great Northern, dome cars someone has for sale. I have a bid on them. Made by ConCor and someone (right here in Idaho) has done some detailing on them, like painting the domes window frames and extra lettering. I can change the trucks and couplers out later. They are mine ! I can't live without them. LOL Grin !!

Unless someone has some Kato versions and is willing to part with them.:sneaky:(y)

No Rick, these were 3D printed passenger shells explicitly for ATSF passenger consists. I do not do anything or pay attention to Bachmann anything.

    Okay! That would be nice.

I only pay attention so that I will know what I'm up against. For sure Bachmann has worn out it's welcome here. (Here being on my railroad) Not a happy camper with what I had to go through with them in the earlier years. Lost faith in them.

All though some of the stuff they've put out recently did catch my eye. They are Leaverites so, I'll leave it right there.

Steve, a good friend bought an HO stove and ran it for a year or so. It started falling apart and at one point he said to me, "I know why you are frustrated with Bachmann, I don't think I'll ever buy another Bachmann" He did, but with the same results.

    I rest my case.

The bid (I hate bidding) I put in on two ConCor Great Northern (Empire Builder) Dome Vista passenger cars went to someone else. I was busy watching the evening news and missed my chance. However, I wouldn't of bid more then my highest bid and the lucky new owner didn't pay much more then I would have for those cars.

Now, officially in business for two Kato GN Dome Vista Cars. Thinking I will end up with the better deal after all. So much for what would have been my most recent purchase.

    Have a good weekend.

Most of my purchasing has evaporated over the past two months. Just a few items of Microtains monthly releases since February. There have not been many releases that are 'wowwing' me right now anyway.
Having to make repairs to the 'homestead' has drained resources too. I had to disassemble most of the layout and put almost everything in storage. No timeline for a return to normalcy here either. Layout is going to go to a different (smaller) room. Probably will be selling more-so than buying in the future.

I put a like on Grandpa Joe's. post above to let him know I understand, not that I like his situation but that I emphathize and share it. If I don't get my layout back up and running, I will miss a real opportunity and it's not likely I will be able to so in the years to come. So I share, the same view from my perch in this world.

Take care but don't give up.

    Thanks BarstowRick...
I figured it was just a supportive 'Like'.

Many of us 60 plus are not as "economically viable" as we were many years ago. Actually glad I hoarded as much as I did when times were good for both income and cost of products. There isn't much I would buy now other than the Kato NCL passenger set... and that is If I live long enough to see it actually produced.

Be well... stay safe in these unusual times.

You guys are scaring me. :)

I have 20 or so years before I can retire (does not mean I will be able to afford to) and I've already started hoarding things. Though, it's difficult to predict what I would be doing, or needing, in 20+ years time. So many things could change as the society and the technology develops further (unless we have another World War and things go backwards).

Do you remember what were your thoughts when you were 20 or 10 years before your retirement?

Did you already have plans/vision in your head what you would be doing, and how did turn out now that you are retired?

In answer to your question that is if one is implied. Grin!

Yes, I had plans starting back when I was a teenager. I wanted a layout where I could run long trains none of this short stuff. No loopity loops. Or tight radius curves. I wanted: Mountains, Bridges, Small suburban train stations, yards both passenger and freight, engine houses, roundhouses, turntables...I wanted it all. Most importantly working knuckle couplers instead of all this other ($#!+) "Stuff" that is.

The stuff we could buy back in the late 50's and 60's was just what I described. Here it is the end of the age of transition from Stoves to Motors. And nothing of real value to buy. It sucked. Then all the model train manufacturers turned to building slot cars and RC model cars. Leaving us out in the cold. You could buy model precision Brass, but from the reports of those who could... they weren't happy with the performance. Describing them as awesome to look at but not worth the price, if they don't run well. Frames to rigid, electric motors would stall out. It wasn't a pretty time and hoarding wasn't going to work. We needed something to hoard.

Athearn and Con Cor followed by Rivarossi did come to our rescue. At prices I could afford but something... wasn't right. Still not what some of us were looking for.

I got busy with high-school, girls (aren't they a trick and a half) and then off to College. A football game and the fight afterwards took a year of my life away from me. Don't think for a minute that was going to stop me. Never mind Vietnam, the draft and I'll never understand how or why my number wasn't called.

I married and had children and all focus went toward them. Back home: I had an HO Layout fairly extensive for the day but someone went to help my dad fix something and burned up all my locomotives and power packs. Layout was deemed unsafe by the Land Lord and down it came. Frustrate, frustrate, frustrate.

Number one son took an interest in trains and we were off and running again. Dad wanted a layout but not so big he couldn't handle it. Son and I built our first N scale layout for him. Parts of that have since become a part of my current N scale layout.

We found we could have more railroading in a smaller package. The best part: Everything I built was designed to grow. All influenced by Tim Allen, uhh err oops. Although, it felt like it at times, when the smoke units I didn't install, well that's a story for a different time.

Starting over: All influenced by John Allen and his layout. His layout wasn't much more then an hour away and I got to visit it a couple of times. His layout proved you could have a layout of renown even if you don't have room for one.

I can keep busy talking about this for hours. The point is I never gave up. And, I'm not going to now. I will eventually get the layout of my dreams at least re-started... if not finished.

Hoarding? A recent move proved I've been hoarding. Back to that dream layout. Do we ever really finish a layout?

Look at all the fun I've had.

10 to 20 years ago I figured I'd want to build a new N Scale road upon retirement, but I never set out to stock up on things because my plans weren't fixed and because technology and product offerings are always changing. Limited storage space is a problem too. I retired three years ago and dismantled my old N Scale layout, but have yet to start on a new one. I've completed a track plan and benchwork drawings, but life has thrown me some curveballs in 2020 (outside of Coronavirus) and modeling progress has stopped in its entirety. My last purchases were some body shells and locomotive parts in autumn of last year. I'll get eventually back on track with modeling, but it may be a while.

Wasn't that long ago I picked up 12 of those passenger cars (mostly coaches) at a flea market. Guy wanted $2 for each. He took $20 for the bunch. One of my better acquisitions.
