Don't forget K9 Blvd lol. A hydrant at every corner and a happy dog on every leash lol. Looking good.
Why I gave you a chiggle there as that was exactly what popped in mind. Where's his roads going to go.
Maybe you should check the track once more, before you glue it down. It could be the picture, but it seems to me, your crossing is not in line with the original track.
So, I fixed the kink and the junction is glued down. So I am using #4’s to get the yard tracks to fan out quicker. The yard feeds off of the interchange track. There are a pair of #6’s on both ends of the interchange and PE mainline with enough room for an old Rivarossi 2-8-2 and a Dimi Trains Vanderbilt tender to make a run around. I was able to find a spot for the very first laser cut kit that I ever built.
I had to see what was going on over here on the other coast. Hey it's warmer and that yard is coming along nicely! Enjoying this build!
Thanks Jim! I am recycling quite a few switches and flex track off of the T.H.E.R.R in the extension. This is a true, low cost build, trying to prove to the wife that I can not spend a lot of money....now when I am going to get to the decoder stage...I am in trouble.....current roster... 3 MTL SW1500'S 1 Arnold Sw1 1 Altas/Kato GP35R (DCC) 1 Life Like GP20R 1 Kato U30C 2 Intermountain SD40-T2 2 Tomix powered interurbans 1 Bachmann 2-8-0 1 Rivarossi Light 2-8-2 1 Rivarossi Light 4-6-2 1 Rivarossi Heavy 4-6-2.... And I need 5 more Tomix chassis.....
Good thing about small switching layout's, economical and still a ton of fun. I hear you on the locomotive front, the DCC thing is never cheap but it is worth the money and investment in the enjoy-ability of the layout.
Back in October when I went out to Shawmut to chase the Big Boy, I picked up a pair of spikes from the old Sunset Route mainline. They have been sitting on my tool box since. Today, I decided to put them to a good use while working on the far end of the yard. I took my four foot rule and marked straight lines from one end to another. I then took the old Atlas Mikado with the Dimi Trains Vanderbilt tender, added an inch or so to the length and decided that is how much room I needed at the end of the run around. I put the #6 crossover in place and laid the track to the egde of the layout. I put glue under the flex track, and used the spikes and a can of acetone for weight. Tomorrow I plan to ballast the switches and lay the track between the two sets of crossovers.
I was digging in my garden years ago and unearthed 7 of these spikes...they are identical to the ones in the pic... Our house dates from the 50s.. There is rail line about 500 meters west of us...
The Gandy Dancers from Laguna de los Borrachos worked on the Washington Blvd yard tonight and Rule G was quickly broken. They got the job done quickly and got the two sets of crossovers connected. They plan to come back in the morning and work on laying track in the yard.
