www.tobiaslocomotiveworks.com Message seems to indicate that the owner, Tobias Giles, has at least suspended operations indefinately... if not permanantly. I saw an advertisment in Nov/Dec N Scale magazine for some building fronts/backs which were in the works. I really was looking forward to getting some of them... now... it seems like these are vaporware. Too bad.
I noticed they are no longer listed with N scale supply either. That's to bad. They had some great building interiors I wanted to use with my DPM buildings. Oh well, so it goes I guess....
I also saw a notice that he was out of business, so I confirmed this by visiting his web site (it was up at that time). Since I knew I was going to need some of his interiors at some point in the near future, I looked on the net and found a full stock at WigWag: http://www.wig-wag-trains.com/ They made my day by having all of them in stock, so I purchased what I needed and put them in my "projects for rainy days" box. Get 'em while you can. David D.
Tobias is working with a laser cut business, name escapes me at present. I talked with him at length at the NMRA in Cincinnati as he was just down the row from our booth. Tina had seen his product as she is a stucture person. I promptly ordered one of each in all scales. I hope maybe he will consider doing them again in the future. A really nice guy too.
It was a loss and no indication of any plans to dispose of the molds/masters. I'd really be interested in getting them if possible.
Didn't he do this before, had them, then was off-line for while, and returned? I had planned on buying some, then it slipped my mind. Bummer for me
David: This time Mr. Giles has accepted a position working for someone else. The entire product line is still in stock though some is getting low.
David, I couldn't resist revisiting this thread... and I laughed as I read this. I guess a lot of us do the same thing as you've done... except for some of us... the comment would substitute '20 foot container' for 'box'.
Tobias did this before, in Z Scale. He actually started to setup our modular club, BAZ or the Bay Area Z Scale Modular Cooperative, and had a line of resin molded track underlays for Marklin Z Scale track. Kind of like a makeshift Kato Unitrack for Z Scale I seen them at a toy store in San Mateo, and they looked real nice, however when I inquired about them, they told me that they would not be able to order any more, as production has ceased. Also at that time Tobias pulled out of Z Scale and left the BAZ club hanging, just before we actually met each other, and started building modules. He actually moved out of the bay area to Kentucky or somewhere and got into N Scale. The track underlay pieces are still in that toy store, as nobody wants to buy them if they could not get any more pieces to finish a layout. A few weeks ago, a couple new guys came over to talk about joining our Z-Bend Track club, BAZ, and they said they were from ETE, or European Train Enthusiasts HO Scale club. They said Tobias had also started up their club, but had quickly moved on after getting the club started. I don't think we have heard the last of Tobias, as I expect him to be starting something new. Maybe an On3 or G Scale club next? -Robert
