Welcome back everyone. I hope you are all doing well and keeping healthy and safe. One good by product of this time of shelter in place is that I'm getting a lot done on projects both in my Railroad shop and other places. Saturday: My first Saturday off in a while. I applied the first coat of polyethylene to the CTC box and allowed it to dry overnight. I also cut a few pieces of 1/4-inch plywood for the servo turnout controls I would work on Sunday. Sunday: I worked on a plug system for the servo control turnout system on my B&M layout. More lessons learned from the Galesburg City Job, making the process of plugging the CTC board controllers into the six individual switch machines easier. This was a nice time spent at the bench, cutting and gluing polystyrene and servo connectors while listening to my favorite podcast. The plywood I cut on Saturday is the mounting pad in which these junction boxes are mounted to. The clamps are just there until the wood glue has fully cured. Overall, the most productive weekend I have had in some time. I'll go though the process if anyone is interested, in my build thread in the N forum later this afternoon. So how about you? Good morning. Spent quite a bit of time Saturday and Sunday working on the road scene behind the passenger station at "Albemarle City". Much of that time was spent detailing the interior of auto tunnels. Was sort of tricky given I had to get my hands inside the tunnel to do some of the work. In any event, here's part of the scene. It is certainly "finished". There are some details of course to be added, signage, guardrails, all that kind of stuff. Happy Monday all.
Had a much better weekend. Saturday: Grocery shopping (Almost, back to normal) -- no crazy lines. I think, the hoarders are stuffed. So, I painted the grills on the E8's - silver I worked a bit on my newest project. Made some progress. Sunday: I painted the bodies of the E8's -- Erie Lackawanna gray I worked on the layout - worked on my sanding towers (Moved the hoses out of the way of cab shades) - re-installed the towers. Painted the masts of new light poles - black. Then installed them at the engine service facility. Next is to wire 'em up. Worked some more on the new project. Lots done over the weekend. Some fence installed, a couple of new crossings started, some new road put down, installed a few trees and shrubs. Made good progress on the graveyard as well. @Jim Wiggin - please do map it out on your build thread. I really like the numbers - I think I could read those without my contacts. I got the second sheet of foam laminated to the second benchwork modular section, so that means modules 1 & 2 are ready to install. That will happen when the Domestic COO and I come to agreement on height . . . she wants to make sure the kids can see it and operate it.
Did next phase planning and started to make parts backstock. To accommodate twenty-four railcars, the work order calls for 192 wheels, 192 journal boxes, 96 frame back plates, 96 (truck) side frames, 96 center springs, 48 coupler/ retainer rods, 48 coupler pockets, 48 coupler hooks, and 96 retainer plates. Jus' so ya' know.
Good morning all, Got a bit frustrated with my Amtrak Superliner tail lights project so I set it aside for now and started another project that I had been considering for some time, a Masonite track cleaning car. Got it all done too. And it seems to work. I already have a number of Aztec track cleaning cars and a couple of Atlas / Tomix motorized cars but just wanted to try this out and glad I did. And the shelf got installed in that odd space at the end of the cabinets and I got the lighting valance installed at the spot as well. Still need to paint the valance. And I had trains running while I was working on these projects. Another thing I did was to work on some future blog posts on the automatic reversing loops in the staging yards and on the track cleaning car. Looks like many of us are making the most of this situation by working on our layouts. It's good to have this distraction and not look too much at the news. Everyone try to stay healthy and keep up the good work.
Finished weathering a Lehigh & New England, and a Norfolk & Western PS-2 covered hopper. Started working on four more; Boston & Maine, Delaware & Hudson, Maine Central, and Lehigh Valley.
Well I finally accomplished my goal of using CorelDraw to create a drawing for a painting template. It has taken several weeks, lots of help from fellow member rray and some language that I won't share here. My next challenge is to create a brass template to cut a paint mask. It will be used to paint Western Pacific silver/orange GP7's, GP9's and GP20's. I also fired up the airbrush and experimented with True-Color paints for the first time. I just might grow to like the stuff. I still miss Floquil though. I'm two weeks into my new job at a bicycle shop and I sold my first bike today. I was hired as a mechanic and was filling in for an absent employee. Be well Be safe Be good Be happy
I’ve got absolutely nothing done. I don’t feel so well. I’ve been stuck in bed the last three days. Hopefully I will be able to get back to modeling soon
