Got outside yesterday for the first time in quite a while and happened upon NS 192 near Killian, SC. Skies were overcast, but I welcomed the low light at this location because I'd have otherwise been shooting into the sun. Those utility line markers drive me crazy. They always seem to sprout smack dab in the middle of my compositions.

I think I see the Northern Sky Charter cars back at number 2 & 3 spots in the line up. This was the October 2011 edition of the AARPCO special passing through Rosenberg.

And of course my friend Patric had his cars in the same parade.

You're correct. Here they are at the crossing near my house on their way to the port at Gulfport.

Just a look at some ICG power as seen in central Illinois in April 1984 in Clinton and Decatur.

North bound ATSF freight passes a parked "run through" Burlington Northern UFIX coal train bound for Houston Lighting & Power generating station at Smither's Lake. August 1992 at Wallis, Texas. One of the crew from the BN power is on the ground to give the Santa Fe train a run by inspection.

Hmm, you're right. The ICG was down on its luck and an increasing amount of equipment was ready for pasture. I lived in AL at the time and those "GP-10" Paducah rebuilds were everywhere down there, all fading away. I'd forgotten all about the new grey and orange scheme until I came across these slides.

I have a Tyco HO GP20 in the orange and white scheme. Maybe the ICG was forced to use Tempera paint on their locos due to their financial situation. :D

Did they get those GP10's from the Milwaukee Road?

    The GP10s were GP7s, GP9s and GP18s re-manufactured in Illinois Central's Paducah Shops. The "feed stock" for the program came from many different railroads. (B&M GP9, B&O GP9, CRR GP9, C&O GP7 and GP9, D&RGW GP9, DT&I GP7 and GP9, FEC GP9, GTW GP18, P&LE GP7, Potlach Forests Inc. GP7, QNS&L GP9, RDG GP7, St.J&LC GP9, SLSF GP7, SP GP9, SSW GP7, and UP GP9B.)
The Katy picked up a few ICG painted Geeps of various models at the end.
