Some of these N scale WW II warships have been on my workbench beginning in 2003. I've had some time lately, as I am severely immuno-deficient due to a drug regimen, so I've been finishing them off one by one. I'm using 3D printing for just about everything smaller than the roughly 8-inch cube build space of the printers: turrets, torpedo tubes, parts of superstructure, life rafts, lifeboats, stacks--just about everything but the brass railings and gun barrels on the destroyers. From front to back: Benson, Fletcher, Atlanta light cruiser, Portland heavy cruiser (Indianapolis). DSC_6811.JPG

Well, there have been some major sea changes in my life over the past 3 years (or 12 years) that I won't go into here. About 18 months ago I developed psoriasis and its accompanying arthritis, so I am on a high dose of methotrexate, which works well and I tolerate just fine. The question is: how does one develop psoriasis at age 70? That is probably unanswerable.

Aside from pretty severe arthritis I am fine and will probably move yet again once this COVID-19 crisis has been brought under control. This time there is no timeline and we can afford a big house with all the amenities (a large workshop and an even larger train room). Yes, I have met a new woman and we are engaged, date sometime in the future. May be moving up to the Greensborough, NC vicinity or Jackson, MS. I've invested in 3D printers and am having a blast with the three of them--the baby one doesn't count any longer. All the 2D CAD drawings can be fairly easily transformed in 3D renditions (extrude the x dimension by y, then trim with z), so I've got about 250 parts done already--and parts can be complicated superstructures as well as simple bitts and cleats.

I haven't been introducing ships on the model railroad forums--but I'll try to catch up. I kept my output purposefully low the last few years as I was dealing with the changes.

Pete, Being from MS, even 20-30 years Ago I wouldn’t want to live in Jackson. Certainly not now, & certainly not after the recent floods!
Clinton’s not bad but is still a bit too near, honestly. I went to university there in the mid 90’s.
Brandon is where folks would like to live to be near it, but not too close. that’s where my uncle lives.
best of luck with ALL things.
Also, just an idea for later ... if 3D printers ever get down to the level of accuracy/precision where it is possible, I’d totally be down to buy a dozen caboose lanterns in clear (even if slightly over scale). No one seems to have them or have ever made them N.

Back on workbench topic, I replaced the Kato caboose truck I managed to very slightly distort with excessive soldering heat when I did the proof of concept on the MT caboose. it was dragging really bad.
While I still need to add the caps to the decoder, and add some Weight and interior detail, I now have the first of my 3 cabooses lit and (now actually) rolling.

Super work, Pete! I remember your shipyard when I visited you in 2003/4 back in ABQ. You certainly had a knack for ships and it's really improved over time. Stay well and keep the photos coming!

Started a relatively simple project. Building a Penn Central DL109. It's bathing in Chameleon right now. I will relocate horns and paint it black (Mick Jagger told me to !!!). It will be used to pull my "Dummy" commuter train. PC did have a 109, but it was orange and lettered for NH. Used as a portable power plant for work trains. It was the very last DL109 in the World. :(

I'm working on a N scale coal trestle that will be 10 inches long, 1.5 wide and 1.3 high. The piles in the bents are made of small diameter dowelrods and a piece styrene for the cross bràces. Use ACC to hold it together.

As a shelter in place project I recently made a Masonite slider type track cleaning car using one of my Micro-Train gondolas. I already have several Aztec cars and a couple of motorized Atlas / Tomix cars but just wanted to try this. It does work for on going light duty maintenance and I run it in one of the trains I have on the layout. I did a full write up on how I made this in a blog post: https://palisadecanyonrr.blogspot.com/2020/04/old-school-track-cleaning-car.html

Soon to be on the workbench (arrived yesterday) is a Royale Models N scale Dry Bulk Tank Trailer. This will be my first project from a 3D printed kit. Looking forward to working on it.

We seem to follow each other on our build threads and other posts. If you don't mind me asking what is your first name and may I use it in the future?

Wow they have a great line up of truck kits ! These 3D guys are making some of the more unusual trailers that we need. A couple of years ago I did two 3D printed trailer kits and they came out great. I see something I have been looking for on their web site, thanks for sharing this.
