State and local government: Shelter in place.

Model Railroad Community: Hold my beer!

Welcome back everyone, hope your shelter in place weekend was productive. As of Saturday, dealerships in Illinois can stay open and we are taking the necessary precautions so it is business as unusual. Sunday however was a good day in the shop.

I finally got the NCE cab installed into the B&M shadowbox as seen here.

The CTC box is almost done. I still need to apply a coat of polyethylene clear to the stained wood and affix the CTC board which you can just make out in the top picture. It is sitting on that rolling tool cart. Lessons learned while building the Galesburg City Job have been applied here. The CTC box not only controls the turnouts on the layout, but also holds the throttle, pencils, RIX uncoupler tool and a small shelf for track cleaning tools. The whole assembly is inserted into the shadowbox using two machine screws that insert into the shadowbox and are secured with two wing nuts. When the layout is in transport mode, I simply unscrew the wing nuts, un-plug the servo wires and slide the complete assembly out. This makes for an easy foot print for transport and will be easier set up and take down for those one day train shows I plan to attend in New Hampshire in the future.

I also ran my new Atlas GP38-2, B&M #200. Wow! I'm impressed. It is a smooth runner and the sound is amazing. Good thing I have at least one more coming.

So how about you? What did you get accomplished this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 27th to do it all over again. Until then, please be safe, have a good week and as always...

    High Greens!

Kind of a strange weekend --

Saturday: After an adventure in grocery shopping -- worked a bit on a new project. Couldn't quite get motivated.

Sunday: Kind of the same. Worked a bit on the new project and pecked at the E8's.

Well, time to set up the work laptop and get to work (Here at home)

    Y'all stay safe and healthy!!

Now that my module base is ready, I have been working on, (or should I say re-working my original track plan), to better fit the space available.

Strange weekend. My favorite modeling time, Saturday morning, was totally taken up by errands and chores. So I got very little done on Saturday. I did manage to work on a layout road scene I have under construction. Also found scribed siding that was a perfect fit to create a walkway between the two track spans on the deck bridge that is nearing completion. So, I got it stained, "ink washed" etc. Then I cut to fit in between the metal structure that surrounds and supports it. Today is my last day working at the office for a while. I start full home working tomorrow.

    Stay safe all!

Saturday I started working on my next scratch build. After cutting all the pieces out I pulled out the windows and doors I ordered. I ordered one pkg of baggage doors and two pkg of man doors. I got three baggage and no man doors. So that project is on hold until I get the correct order.

So I worked on the portable back drop for my modules instead. Sunday I finished painting it up. My wife says I am an artist now.

    Good morning all,

Made good progress on the things I set out to do over the weekend. It is surprising how much time I was spending driving my wife to the stores before.
She is ordering everything on line now so I only have to unpack it and break down the boxes. So for now that extra free time is going into the layout.

Friday and part of Saturday was devoted to working on the lighting in part of the layout. The LED light panels and their power supplies got removed from the bottom of the cabinets above the future Carlin section of the layout and replaced with LED bulbs. Here is a view with the lights turned off showing the structure supporting the light sockets and valance. Yes, I still need a few more bulbs.

And here is the view from the front with the layout lights turned on and the room lights off. There will eventually be another section to the right of the Carlin section which is that blank module.

After re-wiring the power supplies that had been supplying the panel LED light above Carlin the staging yard now has lighting.

The remainder of Saturday and all of Sunday I was building a small relay board and mounting it under the layout along with a dual DCC occupancy detector. By Sunday night I had 3 out of the 4 functions working and still need to wire up that last one. This will allow a train to make it through the yard, go around the loop, and the turnout will change automatically to allow it to leave the yard.

I just spent the weekend decompressing after completing the passenger depot last Wednesday. I need to clean the work area and organize the next phase of work. The accompanying pic shows a "rare" quiet moment on the main. DSCN0375 (2).jpg

My accomplishment this weekend was running some trains. This was the first time I ran something other than just locomotives. Ran my Atlas U23B locos with 13 covered hoppers and a caboose.
