but I tried a search to no avail. Are the ALM car core kits dead? Are we returning to the dark ages?

Something that will be noted as a sign of the fall of our days.

No the Dark Ages will be here if Micro-Trains has to stop production if Oregon executes it’s stay at home order. Hope they can weather that.

The kit as a whole has been gone for a while. San Juan Car Shops acquired American LTD(if I remember correctly) and was selling the roof, floor, and ends of the kits for a while. The mold for that part of the core kit was still usable from what I understand. They are now called San Juan Model Company but are not showing that part of the core kit on their website. But they do show American Limited diaphragms available. Might be worth an email to check if they've any left over.
I do know that N Scale Kits has the same roof, car end, and floor available on Shapeways now. I noticed it over the morning coffee the other day grazing the Shapeways N scale items. Here's the link if you are interested:

i might try one of the shapeways ones, although no underbody details is a problem. I will search for something I think i saw on the N scale varnish list that points out the failings of this.. But this is where our hobby has ended up, no market for things for scratchbuilders because everyone has gone to RTR all the way, and no one has the skills needed to keep someone in business.

Bad news, the tooling is damaged, supposedly beyond repair. But don't know how far beyond repair.

Good news is that I have two, one gallon ziplock bags of the underbody details that I am willing to share.
