I have bought a few colors and haven't sprayed them yet. I'd like to hear what results you all are getting. My airbrush is a Binks single action internal mix type. Have you been successful with using Acetone for thinner. Can I spray Testors clear coats on the model without harming paint? Thanks for your time. Dave
It's not as good as Floquil was, but it works OK. I have painted 5 models with it this winter, my first times using the Tru-Color brand. I thinned it with Acetone each time, about 30% acetone to 70% Tru-Color. Also of note, several of the new, but possibly old stock bottles I purchased, were only 60% full new, so I topped off all those with the official Tru-Color brand thinner, because I didn't want to chance ruining the paint with Acetone over the long haul. It's very expensive. They were very thick, so I suspect the Tru-Color plastic bottles allow evaporation that the glass and metal capped Floquil was not susceptible to. So, back to thinning, Those bottles I topped off, still got further thinned, 30% Acetone to 70% paint before airbrushing, eyedropped into a separate 1/2oz glass bottle for mixing with Acetone by disposable eyedropper swishing. I use 30psi, and the paint delivery turned almost all the way off, thus spraying an almost completely dry but thin layer on. Coverage was great, and the colors are very good too. Sorry, I did not test Dullcote on them afterwards.
Thanks for the input guys. True-Color thinner was included in my order and I bought some Acetone this morning. It will be a weekend of experimenting.
I thin my tru color with acetone when it is not a full bottle or one that I have opened. My interurbans were shot with Santa Fe red and Union Pacific Harbor Mist, the orange is a testor's paint
I've been able to spray without thinning but if I thin I use regular lacquer thinners. I seal everything with dullcote and no ill-effects The BN Cascade green is way off but SP Lark Dark Gray is Spot on for Kato SP Locos
I have had problems with masking for different colors. It sometimes comes off when I peal the masking tape off. The colors I use seem to be pretty spot on.
