I'm thinking of building a Northern Pacific 89' open autorack in 1:24 scale and I need some info as to how the cars were tied down. I have googled articles and pictures but can't seem to find what I need so I'm hoping someone here could help.

I know from examining a very detailed HO scale autorack that it had 2 channels on each level that ran the length of the rail car. Would something like this have been used to attach the lower hook to in the channel?

I know the automobiles had hooks for the upper attach point. Which if any of these would be correct to use for the tension adjustment?

I plan to build 15 Mustang model cars to put on it that were offered only in the Western US in 13 special colors in 1968 to 1969. I'm going to use a USA Trains Bi-Level autorack as my start point for the ends, trucks and couplers. It will have to be lengthened and another level scratchbuilt. This will be a multi-year build and I want to make sure I have the correct period parts to use for the tie downs.

I would be very thankful to anyone with the knowledge from that era.

Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it.

After 2 weeks of searching, I finally found what I need on a Mustang forum.

Thanks to all who looked but weren't able to help.

Glad you found the answer. It was beyond my knowledge. I have not been around auto racks since 1978.
