    Long, long ago...

My Dad and I started building an HO layout when I was in grade school. It continued to develop, and moved with us several times until I finally left for engineering school. While I was away, Dad wanted to switch to N-scale and repurpose all of our benchwork. Since he paid for all of it, how could I say no? Dad expanded his empire to fill a sizable chunk of his basement and all my HO stuff went into storage.

Fast forward 35+ years (and a career change) and I finally have the time to join an O gauge club a few miles away. I also lose Dad and inherit his z-gauge coffee table project. I also move near a large and active HO club. I still don't have room to build a layout where I live but now retirement is close enough that I'm starting to think about what's next.

Eventually, we will have to do something with Dad's empire, but for now I want to resurrect the z-scale layout.

But between the worlds of O, HO, N, and Z, after 35 years, I have a LOT of catching up to do.

    So here I am.

Hi John, welcome. Glad to have you on board. You're fortunate to have an active club nearby. Rectories (assumed) aren't noted for an abundance of room.

Well, being Protestant, it's a Parsonage, but yeah. It's probably the nicest we've lived in and now that the kids are mostly out, we have a but more room, but it's still a squeeze (and we still have stuff in storage). At this point, I'm happy to have a workspace where I might at least build/modify rolling stock to run elsewhere. But the z-scale layout is only 2 by 4 so I can set it on sawhorses and get to work.

Now all I have to do is find the time.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

A bit neater and more handy than sawhorses might be to look at one of the plastic folding banquet tables. They come in all kinds of sizes and configurations.

Thanks. I have a couple of those too. When the time comes to actually do serious work, I'll probably move the layout to my workbench. For now, the sawhorses got it off the floor and into a spot where its out of the way but still handy.[IMG][IMG]

Welcome to Trainboard John. I manage to model in
multiple scales as well. And then there is the full size stuff I enjoy working on. Glad to have you back in the fold.
