I've built 5 3-Way turnouts to this point along with quite a few #6 LH & RH turnouts. I used FactTracks instructions for building the first couple 3-Ways but was having some problems building them as they have you build the turnout and then cut the 2 sets of points, modify them to use rail joiners as hinge points, and then do some soldering of the rail joiner/point back to the rail you cut it from.

The instructions show a HO turnout build and I found that with the N build things are so tight that it is hard to do some of the soldering if you follow their steps. I modified things by building the whole length of track that includes the point, rail joiner hinge and the rest of the rail past the hinge, which also becomes a guard rail as one assembly. Then soldering the whole assembly to the PCB ties as a unit. This seems to go a lot faster and a lot easier, although building the 3-Ways compared to a normal turnout is not easy. I would not recommend starting your first turnout build with a 3-Way.

I'll include a few pictures of what I've done below, but there are over 20 so on my web page so I won't show all of them and the written build suggestions here. I will give a link to the web page where you can find all of the photos and written instructions and you can bookmark it if so desired...

After building the first 3-Way I didn't know if I wanted to tackle anymore but did and now they go quite a bit faster, but still no where near as fast as building a #6 using a FastTracks fixture. The PointForm and StockAid tools I got to build the other turnouts are invaluable in building the 3-Way turnouts.

Hope this might help someone and here is the link with a lot more pictures and a lot more info on building these turnouts...

Even being in HO I don't know if I'll get into this. But it is informative and interesting. Maybe if I can get outdoor space!
