Hi. I’m new to the site and was wondering if anyone has seen a similar problem and what could be the cause. The system is 30CDW and during a direct release test ONLY the ER drops slowly. The ER cut-off valve, 26F service portion and duplex gauge have been replaced, as well as a soap test of piping and reservoir itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You are aware that this is a MODEL railroading forum, not prototype?

Yes. Many guys I know are also current or former railroad employees. Thanks for your response.

EMD F59PHI passenger loco. No problem noticed with ER setup for PASS in any application/release.

    Thanks Matt,
You might go to the WABTEC former WABCO site and see if there are service bulletins for that brake system, there is at least one that I see.
Also, the O-rings in the console air gauges, if the air gauges are the servicable ones, the O-rings can get hard and can leak.
These are very basic and very generic possibilities. But a start. I have fixed brake system leaks this way a time or two.

Thanks. I’ll check them out. The gauges are Salem duplex and I’ve changed the gauge as well as the o-rings. However I’m suspecting the problem could be in the gauge manifold itself. I appreciate the feedback!

In a release test only huh? If the brake pipe is holding the ER valve setting its very clear its a gauge issue but if the BP is falling with the ER then for the love of God man, BAD ORDER IT! We have enough negative press from accidents and these railroads have a good maintenance budget and you aren't saving them anything by running questionable locomotives. Its a passenger unit too, so...… Liability isn't a ugly monster under the bed story!
Hope you get it fixed but I wouldn't let it out of the roundhouse.

Understood. Its shopped til the problem is resolved. This one stumped me, as usually it’s the case with an ER leak that the BP would follow when cut-in (pass or frt). Will look closer at the gauge/mounting assm, etc. Thanks!
