Freezing drizzle is a nightmare for transportation. Cars can't maintain control on icy roads, trains struggle for adhesion. BNSF is framed leaving town using ice-glazed trees:

The last time I ever saw an originally painted Milwaukee Road unit in person. Just over thirty years ago in Seattle. I have a much better quality slide scanner now, so perhaps later this winter I will make a much improved copy....

I just bought one too on Cyber Monday. Still figuring out the two software packages it came with, but am making progress. I was just thinkin', we could all maybe start a new photography thread called Random Railfan Prototype Slide and Photo Scans For All to help set apart older material or simply stay on course with Random Railfan Prototype Photos For All? It doesn't really matter; just an idle thought and I wouldn't want to complicate LegomanBill's weekly Railfan Photos of the Week search process.

LegomanBill's Wil's Slide Box has been so enjoyable. Being scans, you just know there's always very cool older cool stuff to be found there.

Had to attend the Kennesaw Christmas parade where Santa arrived in a train instead of his sleigh.

The big guy was followed shortly by a northbound CSX freight. The crowd almost made me feel like the Big Boy was going to roll in. As a side note, the building across the tracks to the left of the locomotive is home to the famous steam engine "the General".

Starting to figure some of the scan functions out. Two test shots here, one dark and one sunny. I'm finding out that just like with digital files, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, i.e., a badly exposed 35mm slide yields a poor scan. Sometimes though, I have a good slide that scans poorly. o_O

My son and I went trackside in the heavy snow today. For two hours, not a thing. All at once at the tail end of Blue Hour, a CP and BNSF train passed in quick succession. Memories!
