:) …. and there's no standing in line. I'd forgotten all about Bachmann's Doodlebugs. They look nice in photos at least. I'm surprised that no N Scale manufacturer has since touched this sort of thing since, as they were widely used nearly everywhere and could run on most any model pike.

Hey now, eBay highlights the Seller as a "Top Rated Plus Trusted Seller". That the Seller can't distinguish between HO and N doesn't seem to enter into eBay's appraisal. o_O

    Labeled HO now...

So what's the point of this thread exactly? Simply to make fun of ebay ads?

Its hard to say if that was the original intent or if it has evolved, revolved and ultimately devolved into something else...

If I remember...JD's original post was in the same vain as pretty much all the posts in this thread. Delusional sellers and buyers that we have yet to figure their motives for paying what they do for what is sold.:confused::LOL::ROFLMAO:

Idk, the hobby is exclusive enough for newcomers and the thread just seems petty...

This is how it reads to me:

Post: Hey look at this guy's eBay auction! What are they thinking...?
Responses: Yeah what a dope! LOL!

I mean, I get it there are scammers out there, but some sellers actually don't know. And if you're trying to point out a bad auction then why not just point it out as advice for newcomers to the hobby... Or hey, contact the seller. I've done that before.
Just my two cents, take it as you will.

Some of the items are way over the top with their prices many times they are junk that belongs in the trash. We all need a laugh sometimes and eBay is a good place to start.

Sometime when I have contacted the seller about overpricing and etc. Half of the time they don't care, because they think they have something of value. Then it takes a report to eBay to get their listing removed. So making fun of them is worth it!

I did not know that FeePay would delete a listing for an overpriced item.

I have had buyers contact me to complain that an item was "overpriced". I never replied. My thought was that if a prospective buyer does not like a price, he did not have to bid on the item. Still, in the interest of avoiding anything from mild hostility to something's going far beyond what it had to, it was best that I simply did not respond. No prospective buyer pressed the matter after I ignored him with one exception. After three ignored messages, even he got the idea.

I do state up front that I determine the shipping charges and that they are not a matter for discussion. Despite that, on occasion, a prospective buyer will contact me to complain about the postage. I simply block those people.

There was a time when the sellers could leave negative feedback. When I first started to sell on FeePay, this was still allowed. The first time that a prospective buyer contacted me to complain about the postage charges, I checked his feedback, I considered blocking him. There were numerous negatives that all had to do with complaints about shipping charges. It appeared that one of this guy's favourite tricks was to win an auction, then send a message to the seller that demanded a new invoice that reflected the postage that he was willing to pay. Several sellers complained that he demanded a reduction that was even below the cost of the least expensive way to mail it. This demonstrated to me that my hunch was on the mark. I blocked him, Since then, anyone who complains about postage gets blocked.

I have had some complain about my combined shipping when they win more than one item. I refer those back to my stated policy in the text of the auction. No one has given me negative feedback over it. One did refuse to pay when I would not give him the shipping price that he wanted on three items. I contacted FeePay, and, much to my surprise, they gave him a non-paying bidder strike. They cited my up front stating of the no discussion policy on postage charges. FeePay's attitude was "You told them before they bid, they bid anyhow, it is on them".

I am aware that FeePay does not tolerate sellers' charging "excessive" shipping and handling. Never has FeePay contacted me about that.

I have read many horror stories about how FeePay favours the buyers to maximum detriment of the seller. In many cases, this has not been my experience. I have listed items "as-is", stated in the listing anything from "there are problems" to "this is JUNQUE". Despite that, I have had buyers complain when they got the item. When they went to FeePay, the ruling always came back in my favour. The CSR always pointed to my mentioning "as-Is" several times in the text as well as mentioning the problems.

My only real complaints as a seller with FeePay is that it will not remove undeserved negatives except in the most egregious cases. Further, it does not allow sellers to warn other sellers away from bad buyers. Back when sellers could leave negative feedback, I was warned away from more than one bad buyer. FeePay will not, however, tolerate threats of holding your feedback hostage. I have had two such threats. I reported them to FeePay. FeePay informed me that they had banned that user. In one case, it was only a subtle hint that the buyer was going to hold my feedback hostage.

Interesting notes brokemoto. I've sold several hundred items on eBay and have had good transactions on most. I am honest to a fault with my descriptions, always overstating any problems with the item to assure there's no recourse for a difficult Buyer . The most frustrating thing I've encountered is slow payers, Buyers who wait over a week or more to pay. I never send an item without payment, but no-payers mess up my system of timely packaging, labeling and shipment.

Last time I sold something on eBay almost 10 years ago, there was an issue and the buyer was so bad to deal with that other than checking out some of the ones posted here, I stay away.

The issue was an old ConCor loco that I tested before putting it for sale and it ran way better than I had expected after sitting in a box for years. Sold it way cheaper than I should have. The buyer said it didn't run when he got it. I had my doubts but offered to take it back and even pay for return shipping. He refused and said he paid for a running loco so wanted a running loco. I then offered to have him send it back and I could figure out what was wrong, fix it and return it or he could get it repaired and send me the bill. Again, he send back a no and that was not what he had paid for. I point blank asked him what it would take to resolve the issue and make him happy. He really got hateful at that point. Won't go into what all he said but it was bad and un called for.. I felt like I had really tried to resolve the problem but eBay sided with him even after I provided a copy of our exchanges where I tried working with the buyer to resolve the issues. The outcome, the buyer got the loco (that probably was running just fine), and i was out a loco and the money. Felt totally abused by the seller and eBay so that was it.

Sorry to hear about that. I've heard so many similar stories and it happened to me once (non-MRR related item and it was only $20). It didn't stop me from not selling on eBay but it curtained it by a LOT!

    SVRailroader,

I posted something here about these and what could be Salvaged from them. The wood could possibly be used as lumber loads , in a Construction Scene the trucks used to rehab a freight car and the screws for any To do List or that ever elusive fake kitchen drawer !

Such an inequitable outcome! I agree with your appraisal -- the Buyer was likely one of those people who's life compass points only to what they can get away with.

I had a lousy experience years ago on a forum, outside of eBay using only e-mail. No money was lost. Nothing was shipped and nothing was paid for, but the potential Buyer was a complete jerk. My quote to him on my locomotives was 25% less than actual final sales on eBay and he insisted I was too high and said he'd pay half that. I politely responded that I'd sell them elsewhere and he quickly shot back with an abusive "fat chance getting that" e-mail. I never responded and soon sold them on eBay at just over my exact estimate of their worth.
