Structural engineers have been designing fixes for cracked wing spars for many many years. Surely it wouldn't be that tough for a locomotive where weight isn't much of an issue. Just weld in some plate and it's good.

Which manufacturer do you think will do this unit? Athearn?, KATO?, FVM? Just a thought!

FVM doesn’t have an SD90. I bet Kato does the paint on their SD90 chassis. It would be a fubar, but it would sell.

My conversion is coming along - working on railing today and hope to wrap it up in the next couple days, but we'll see. I've got a cab for both headlight configs so all variants would be represented.

I saw a few youtube videos of Scott Teague and he finished one. Looks like a lot of work. What unit are you doing SLSF?

Great question - in short, I'm not sure. This was a commission job for a custom builder so really I'm just doing the design and will ship it off to a more competent modeller. I'll make it available to other interested modellers once I'm satisfied with it. So far the only hassle with this conversion kit, as far as installing, is cutting off the original battery boxes and filing the sill down. If I can do it anyone can. The new parts just snap/clip in like the Kato parts would so in that respect it's pretty easy. I was even able to recycle the glass from the original cab (not the windshields though - different shape altogether) Blower cover and brake wheel just needs sanding of the original hood and parts glued into place. It's been a fun project.

The fact that your doing it shows a lot. Do you plan to show some pics when your done? All these CP units has reignited a little fire out the exhaust stack in me! I saw a couple CP military units on Ebay, but they were sd70ace's. I picked up some sd90macs so maybe I'll give it a try!
    Thanks

    ok guys... interesting replies.

hopefully by end of february 2020 i will be able to offer a complete kit. complete body with separate cab, pilots and such. also lots of etched detail parts to reproduce a correct canadian pacific sd70acu. it will fit a kato sd80/90 drive (not included). it will be a limited run of 100 kits only.

hope to get a first prototype of the kit in the next 2-3 weeks.
