    Thanks guys :)

I enjoyed it a lot...even though it was work. Still have to pick up everything not glued down and vacume up the debris. Went out today and just ran trains. I swapped in locos from the turntable area that i hadnt run in awhile. Most ran just fine. A few needed wheel cleaning. One needed a small drop of oil on the gears through the bottom of the trucks. It quieted down pretty quick.

All in all...another relaxing day with trains (y):D

    .....................................................................................

So 3 years ago I bought these led light strips. They worked fine...until recently. I turned them on one day this summer and only the first 3 feet lit up. Further investigating led to the discovery that they are NOT a continious 16 foot strip as I had thought !!! They are 3 foot sections soldered together at the ends to make whatever length they are/where selling !:censored:

With temps in THERR RV ranging from 100 degrees in the summer ( until I turn on the AC ) to 15 degrees in the winter ( untill I turn the heaters on ) it seems to have messed up the light strips where they are soldered at the overlaps...:mad::mad::mad:. Had I known these were not continious strips I would have looked elsewhere until I found ones that where.......:censored::censored::censored:

    END OF RANT

dang! And now I suppose they also kept the solder joints sealed in gunk?! Just to keep us from fixing them.

I am to old to get up there to try and fix them. I will wait until my son comes back into town and see if i can get him to. He is an IT guy so I am sure he can figure them out. (y)

Ok...this is way to weird ! Not 10 minutes after I post that I will wait till my son comes back into town... HE SHOWS UP !!! I swear...freaky huh ???

Anyways...we go out to THERR RV and I explain the problem. He says "No Problem Pops." out comes my soldering station...some cat 5 wire...strippers...solder and a step stool. Within 10 minutes he finds 3 different bad areas. He solders 2 wires across each joint (4 solder pads total each joint). I Flip the light switch. And I am about in tears !!

THERR RV has layout lights again...:cry::D:D(y)(y)(y)

    I love my kids...:love::love::love:

Well, I was rooting for you. Solder, a solder gun, wire strippers, wire and some paste and you are in good shape.

You aren't the only one that goes through these untimely and misery creating situations.

Spooky when the kids show up, unannounced and at the right time.

I have had the idea of a layout in a 40ft container for a lot of years. For now I need my layout to be mobile...as renters we tend to move a lot. Thus we built THERR in an RV.

Now..my son is asking us to move in with him up in Winnemucca Nevada...rent free. He is certified EMS and bless his heart he is just thinking of our health issues at our age.

THE WIFE and I are in the discussion stage if we even want to do that. Lots of logistics to consider. The least of which is THERR RV. Its in an older RV that needs lots of TLC to be able to drive from here to there. THERR RV was just meant for short hauls like around around here where we live.

I have proven with THERR RV that the concept of an N scale layout in a 8ft wide 20ft length area works !!! The thought of doubling the length of the layout while still utilizing the 8ft width sounds really good to me !! :D:love:

So now...after reading "Grey Ones" thread "Container Homes With Detailed Interior" It got me thinking...again. If we decide to move to Nevada...and I cant sell THERR RV for a decent price...what are my options? My conclusion: We could strip THERR out of the RV. Salvage everything. The cabinets. The plywood. The track and accessories. Remove the rooftop AC. Remove the RV furnace. Remove the Inverter. Remove the Generator....and a few other items. I could then scrap or sell what is left of the RV...on the cheap..

We could move in with my son...he has acreage. I could get a 40ft container and just rebuild THERR...AGAIN. I could the use the RV AC...furnace...generator...the inverter etc on the new THERR Container !!:D

Its all still in the discussion stage right now. No immediate plans. But...it is always good to be prepared with a plan if that decision is made...;););)

My only concern with that plan for the layout would be the complete lack of insulation. I don't remember the climate in Winnemucca as I've only really spent time in Vegas, Reno/Carson City and Stateline, but I'm guessing typical great basin. Meaning insulation is your friend.

George , I think the move and the container would be great ideas. People insulate containers all the time. I am sure there is mega info out there on insulating , wiring and anything you need. What about another larger RV ??

Oh yeah you can insulate them. My poi t was more about interior space. Insulation takes up part of it. The flip side is, you could go crazy. Get a welding setup and just buy more and more containers and weld them together.

YoHo... There are numerous websites on insulating a contaiiner. People do make houses out of them all the time. (y)

Grey One...If it doesnt work...I have you to blame this time...:LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::D:D:p:p:p:p:p:p:whistle:

    MK...East v West...Could be fun (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Mike...Thought about getting another RV up there. Then we are talking gutting it. That was the hardest part of THERR RV. Getting it all down to a clean slate to start to rebuild. A container would be a clean slate when delivered. (y):D

A friend of mine here in town has a container on his place he uses for storage. Gonna have to go look at the inetrior to see what it will take to insulate one.:cool:

Like I said...its all in its infancy. We may not take uor son up on his offer. The original THERR RV may outlive us all. (y) Being older we are pretty set in our ways. Living with someone else...even our son...not so sure we want to do that.

George, when looking for or researching containers, look for ones that are made with insulation already Our warehouses use them all the time to ship refrigerated loads internationally. Depending on prices, might save you a step. Just a thought.

    Just a suggestion.

Trailer the RV. Then you don't have to worry about registration, passing smog, breaking down, flat tires, stripping things out but when delivered is set up and ready to go.

Winnemuca gets cold in the winter. You may get some snow something you should be used to.

The only concern is whether ordinances will permit an RV stored at a residence. Some places get particular and they have to go to a licensed storage facility as silly as that seems.

After you get set-up in your new home you can always come and help me get mine back on it's feet.:eek::rolleyes:o_O

    Choices, always choices.
