I could have gotten away with just one but I went with the two in case I decide to add another scene that I am considering that might be more than 2 inches deep. Still not sure on it yet. It also paid off at the bridge over the creek. The creek itself is just 2 inches deep but the abutments for the bridge were taller than that. I can tell you it was a lot easier to just trench a little foam to install them than trying to cut down those resin castings. It also didn't hurt that I was gifted the foam. If I'd had to buy it, it almost certainly would have been just one sheet. :D

Got a little time on the layout this morning. Hoping for more time tomorrow.

Finally finished a base coat of paint over most of the oink foam. Now I feel more like I can move forward with finishing out a couple of sidings and work on more scenery.

The streets and sidewalks are coming along in the town area. Here we see a Santa Fe maintenance crew giving them a try.

me likes so far.. i wish i could get 2 inch foam . nothing to be had in my area. i can only get 1 inch foam and thats pretty expensive here. so far i got one sheet of 1 inch foam. got a small start on my layout. cant do nothing till i get the remodel done. i hate waiting. i want to build and play with me trains. hahahah im watching your progress though.
I really miss my 3 x 4 layout . that was a fun one to build. I should have kept it . it was small but really fun.

Sidney,. for the two inch insulation foam you might try Lowe's and Home Depot in Ft. Smith, 82 miles from Mena, or 76 miles to Hot Springs AR. If you know of any major lumber yard that is closer they should have some. Good luck with your search.

I'm in a town of 3700 in SE Utah and the local lumber yard here has 3/4", 1", 1 1/2" and 2". I just used some of about all those sizes to insulate a smaller camper/RV trailer I'm making. Have you tried the lumber yards in your area?

We are 135 miles from the nearest Lowe's/Home Depot which is probably good as they haven't put the local guys out of business and the lumber here is much better than I see at the big box stores,

Well not a lot of progress since my last post back in early October. Been a rough month to say the least and we'll leave it at that. A couple of work in progress things going on.

Poured the pad for the propane dealer site and put down ballast between all the main line tracks, between the mains and secondary tracks, and one of the double sidings.
    gc1.JPG

Also got a little more ground cover started. Looks a bit rough now but once the glue sets and the excess is recouped, it should look good.

No pics but did get a little more scenery work done over the weekend. Slowly making some progress. Also was able to do a quick update to the track plan. The added sidings are in a slightly darker shade of blue.

Looks great BNSF FAN. You've now got me thinking about my track plan. I might lessen the planned footprint of my coal breaker area and perhaps use the space to add another industry to diversify my carloadings.

What are you using for your roads? Is it pre-printed? How are you getting the STOP areas etc... on the roads? Looking very nice and although your space is limited because of all the doors against the walls, you have to love the walk around access :) Following to learn and get ideas for my small 2' x 4' sections!

Keep up the great work, and take car with the medical issue's. So you and your dad both had medical thing's happen not to far apart right? That's taking the phrase " Like Father, Like Son " ( or whatever the saying is ), a little too serious don't you think :)

Thanks for the comments, questions and kind words.

The roads are indeed pre printed. They are produced by a company called Leisure Time Products. I get them at my LHS but I'm sure that some of the fine advertisers here carry them or can get them for you.

The walk around access is pretty cool. I talked about it before that I just really didn't want to tackle another room sized layout and so far I am happy with that decision.

That was bad that dad and I had accidents so close together. He recently passed so I fully intend for that to not be a " Like Father, Like Son " deal :)

Thank you In2Tech and no worries my friend. It's all good.

I saw your layout ideas and it looks cool. My first layout was a 2x4 size and was probably one of the most fun layouts I had. This new layout is just a bigger version of it with a few more sidings. Always glad to share and answer questions and if either of us leans something along the way, then it's a win. :)

Did manage a little time in the train room Sunday afternoon. Worked on several task but didn't really finish anything. First off, I installed metal wheel sets on 6 more cars and let them run around the layout for a while. Then moved over to installing 3 more under track uncoupling magnets. I had thought I was done with that but came up with 5 additional spots I wanted to place them. Only had 3 left so those went in. Still need to order 2 more and maybe that will finish that project. next, I moved over to make some progress on the propane dealer that I had previously poured a pad for.

Well, I see that the pad just isn't big enough.
    Propane 1.JPG

The pad is being extended so there will be a place for the office, parking and some other detail.

While I was in that area with glue and scenery material , I went ahead and added a little foliage. I don't think I mentioned it before but I had also put the gas station and the building next to it in their respective places.

I am finally turning mu attention back to the creek as well. Test fitted some rock in the channel and started doing a little on the banks. If I can get the banks done and one of the bridge piers straightened up, it will be ready for water and then that scene will start to come together.

Last thing was putting some thought into this area. When I added this siding, I really had no idea what I would do with it. Now I'm thinking it just might be a good area to add some kind of high pressure gas and chemical storage. Thoughts?

What manufacturer makes your bridge abutments? I'll eventually need something like these and they look great. Looks like the Kato bridge nestles in them well.

Is that an old Roco/Minitrix/Postage Stamp GATX tank car you have? I have a similar Atlas Suburban Propane car of the same vintage, which has multiple broken parts after rolling a million miles since I was a kid. I replaced it with one of Atlas' updated models from perhaps a decade ago.

WOW! - Very nice! I could go through and put a 'Like' on almost every post, but in truth my index finger might get worn out.
And yes, I may well number my turnouts in a similar fashion. Hmm, some of them until I learn them for switching purposes. :X3:

Suggestion for the siding: Mystrium! (or however you would like to spell it). Then you can use any care for any reason and no one can question it.
