No local fire departments? You could ask them if they might know of any existing.

In theory, there is a local fire department for Quincy and Miami township. In reality, they have yet to pick up when I call and there is no voice mail. I refuse to call 911 to get their attention. I'm also working on connecting with the NYCHS again for other details.

Very possibly a volunteer fire department and the local phone is at the firehouse and they only respond to a 911 call. but you are correct to NOT call 911. Keep on trying and Good luck!

Just a small update. I'm starting to find maps with Mix on them now. it appears Mix was the location from which the tracks were routed south around Sidney from its east side in the 1920s. There's almost nothing there now except an electrical substation.

I also learned that the NYC historical society is going to be releasing (probably on a thumb drive) the Big Four's tax valuation maps from around 1910. Ralph at the NYCHS is pushing the production of these, but I don't yet see them in the "Collinwood Shop" and I don't have a date for when they'll be available. Keep an eye out for them at https://nycshs.3dcartstores.com/. He assures me that everything the railroad owned at Mix and Quincy will be documented there.

Logan county historical society continues to send me info, too, on Quincy details mostly. I can't recommend them enough. please visit if you find yourself in Ohio.

1915 Valuation map has all the Mix features. There are few. I also Stumbled across a photo from Pinkstaff on the Egyptian line from 1907, too. This has to be very similar to Mix. Though, I'm not sure about the short tower that stands in the watery ditch. Is that unusual? Do you think Mix Station would've been a 2-story tower? The owner of the photo has a nice description of the photo at flickr linked above.

I'm especially pleased to see the "bicycle with the little wheel" mentioned in one of the obituaries and right next to a velocipede, too! I previously thought the obit was describing the velocipede. Now I think this bicycle thing may have been a fairly common thing on the Big 4.

I found a legend/key that sort of explains the semaphore signals, but does anyone have the actual legend/key to all the symbols on the map?

Two stories were not necessary. I know of other sites, other railroads, named "____ Tower, which were single story shacks. It might simply have been a control point, for issuing train orders. (That is a train order signal, just beyond the building.) A second story might be for the leverman's vision. It might be to use the first story for housing equipment.

I was not aware that bicycles had been adapted for rail use. It looks flimsy and unsafe. Though it could be removed from the rails quickly if the rider met a train.

I don't know if that is the right location ,but I went past the location 4-5 days a week. The mileage starts at Cleveland today and Pemberton MP 158 ,
and Sidney is MP 163.7 .You are correct about the now double track swinging south around Sidney and over a high bridge over the valley . They still use the old road for switching on the west side of Sidney . When CSX took over this was a large problem for them . They did not understand an industry
that worked 24 hrs. a day 7 days a week . They also had a problem with car storage paying for crew overhead and lost many thousands of dollars ,but
that to shall pass . LEW
