if you are part of a yahoo railfan or MRR group, be advised that yahoo is closing groups and will belted all data in December

Understand what's changing in Yahoo Groups

Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 28, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

    What features will go away?
    • Files
    • Polls
    • Links
    • Photos
    • Folders
    • Calendar
    • Database
    • Attachments
    • Conversations
    • Email Updates
    • Message Digest
    • Message History
What will happen to the site?
The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted. Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin. Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited.

What will happen on October 28?
On October 28, you will no longer be able to upload any content to the site. To share info with members of your groups, you'll continue to be able to do so via email.

How can I keep my Yahoo Groups content?
Photos and files can be saved right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can download your data from the Privacy Dashboard.

Will I be able to use Yahoo Groups going forward?
You'll still be able to communicate with your groups via email and search for private groups on the site. In addition, admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools.

I'm not surprised. FB made a big dent in them, coupled with too many poor "upgrades" and other issues poorly handled. :(

I agree 100% Box. Every Yahoo Group programming change resulted in further ruin. I'm not on Facebook, so will miss the handful of Yahoo (rail) Groups I'm a member of.

I remember it was One groups before it was Yahoo groups, Google groups never caught on, Myspace...what was that?, Facebook never was serious so no file downloads, pictures not very organized, etc. Yet through it all, Trainboard has been here, with the best features of all those groups. In less than 6 months I will celebrate 20 years of Trainboard membership, where I have been active, then inactive for a time, then starting to be active again now that I am retired. Yay Charlie, thanks for Trainboard!

Before Yahoo Groups, they had Yahoo Clubs. These were very limited in capabilities. Then they bought eGroups, which was how Yahoo Groups came to be. Clubs were dumped. (Not merged.) eGroups had formerly been named something like "OneList". Wow We're going back quite a few years!

Yeah, Onelist. That was it. It was short lived, but this was when I was switching from AOL to real internet. Yep, 20 years ago. Wow!

Most of the Yahoo Groups that I owned or belong to moved to Groups.io a while back. Groups.io moved my groups along with all of my members and files to new Groups.io groups. Much better than Yahoo Groups and well supported.

LDSIG is the latest to move to groups.io from Yahoo. I just got on there a few minutes ago and it looks like all the files got transferred okay.

The full list of the ones I belong to are:
    jmriusers
    ldsig
    NCE-DCC
    NPModelers
    NPRailway
    NPTellTale
