    Z scale stuff...

AZL just released the California Zephyr and F3 locomotives in DRGW, WP & CBQ. Picked up a couple sets plus motive power.
Got to go rob a bank to pay for it all now.

I picked up a couple of the Bowser Mfg. Penn Central Quad hoppers to add to the Penn Central collection. These new models come with Micro-Trains couplers and Fox Valley metal wheelsets.

Still on my N scale spending spree. Also my Bachmann 4-4-0 ended up being a dud, the carriage keeps on slipping on the rails which is a known problem with this model. So I ended up upgrading to a Model Power steam locomotive. Really wanted a kato steam but so expensive, I had a self imposed $100 limit.

My 4-6-2 came in and it runs beautifully along with the NOS 50' box cars I got today. I don't think I will be shelling out for a Kato steam now.

Picked up an Deluxe Innovation PRR 40' boxcar, Micro-Trains PRR 40' four car runner pack, Intermountain PRR 50' boxcar, and Fox Valley MILW 50' boxcar. Was an estate sale at local hobby shop. Most have stickers from a hobby store that closed several years ago. I do miss the hobby shop.

I've decaled my two LL E7 shells and installed #512 on a Kato E8/9 chassis. I found several pictures that show the E7s with silver trucks so I used UP units. While the LL shell fits on the Kato chassis, the headlight is in the shell cab. I put a piece of shrink tubing over the light and that did the trick. I still need to install front couplers. MTL 1016s should work. The number boards need to be painted black and decaled but my hands don't always do what my brain tells them, so I will wait to do those.

So yesterday I went to Atlas' HQ (yes, THE manufacturer) for their first ever Warehouse sale. They opened up their warehouse to the public (you do have to register ahead of time to get in) to sell all the excess inventory (and some pre-production samples) at reasonable prices. I got there around half an hour before the event and I was #40. :)

Half of the N inventory had no trucks so you have to provide your own but the prices were cheaper factoring that in. The other half were ready to run.

I've seen cheaper at train shows but here you don't have to hunt for them and there were some hidden gems that you would be hard to find at a train show. And to boot Atlas provided free hots dogs (via Randy The Hot Dog Guy) and drinks.

I had to keep muttering "Need vs. Want...Need vs. Want...Need vs. Want" the entire time I was there. I could have EASILY bought 10x since there were some really nice rolling stock there, especially the cabeeses. Many were holding empty boxes, throwing in items like walking up and down the aisles of a supermarket. :D

When I left I did over hear some staff members saying that they might do this once or twice a year going forward. Fingers crossed!

    No train stuff, in general.
Did get a nice supply of books, offered
through swap meet section. Found the Milwaukee Road West
at book dealer in Denver, great price!

also have 2/3 of my air horn set up!
Just need the horns now! Ordered a Nathan M3.
Proving to be a bit harder to get, than expected, at
    time of order.

Starting to wonder, which will arrive first:
A pair of coats I ordered, or the horns I ordered!

On of the model railroading etail 'pushers' had a sale ending yesterday on Woodland Scenics stuff. I went in big time on the WS lighting stuff they have been selling for over 2 years. Got vehicles, lamp posts and associated connectors etc.

So I wonder if it was a worthwhile 'dive' into these products. Any comments about WS lighting stuff from the Trainboard 'peanut gallery' would be welcomed.

Hi Mike, I believe I received an Atlas insider email stating the same thing. My memory is not as good as it use to be, but I was thinking this was going to become an annual event? Did you happen to see Atlas Paul at the warehouse sale?

Rich, I was there for awhile but did not see Paul. I did see a guy that I've seen in their print material. I think he is the President. But everyone at Atlas was very nice and helpful to all of us.

Coming back to N after being on the Dark side of the moon.

First replacement unit is a Kato SDP40F Ex Amtrak which will be 1 of 3 for my director's specials only bad thing is these 3 will replace the Executive F's of the past.

Here's the pic of Unit 1 for my freelanced road.

    Thanks Leester

    The big dogs in town.

Just arrived today soon to get stripped and repainted into IR color's plus the stock kato 10th anniversary car has gold framed windows so this should become a really cool looking car.

Going to rename it Charleston this is going to be real fun

Just got a pair of ATSF Pullman Q Logo 3-bay hoppers from Atlas. First time I've seen the new smaller slip cover boxes! I had no idea. They seem nice to use at first, sort of like a Kato loco box. Not real sure how they will play with my old Atlas lidded boxes. I will be finding out as they hit the rails.

My rolling stock all lives in plastic boxes stacked horizontly. Just an observation.
