A month until I'm 75. In these last weeks here are some of my favorites. I'm retiring. 1contest_tonemapped.jpg

Wow, is that a T&NO gondola? If it is, it is a long way from home. :)

Good morning from sunny and mild Northeast Ohio!

I completed a couple of cars this week.

First is a IMWX 40' 1937 AAR Boxcar Kit, substitued metal sill steps from Yarmouth Model Works for the plastic ones and a Viking Roof from Des Plaines Hobbies, car was painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and letter with Speedwitch Media Decals. The orginal car was delivered in 1936 with black ends and roof, but this is a late 40's repaint in all boxcar red and the C&O for Progress herald added, car was in general service.

Finished the 6th Canada Wheat Board 4550CF Covered Hopper kit with a Plano Roofwalk added in place of the plastic roofwalk (what a difference). Car was painted with a 75%-25% of Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow-Boxcar Red and then Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Cars were purchased by the Gov't of Canada and not the railroads due to the 1870's Crows Nest Agreement could not charge enough to justify purchasing new cars to get rid of the ancient 40' box cars then in grain service.

    Thanks for looking!

The 2019 Narrow Gauge Convention had a large contest room which was right next to the layout room so I got a chance to make several trips to see all of the really fine entries. Here are some photos I took of some of the dioramas, this is just a small sampling of what was there. I especially liked the "square footer" category. The first four photos are of square footers.

This last one is not a square footer but I understand from a youtube video I saw that this was the diorama contest winner. There were also quite a bit of animation on the dioramas but of course this does not come out in the still photos.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Not sure where to start this week. It's all outstanding. I fell in love at first sight with Russell's little mogul, and of course there's another nice shot from Wolf. Also good to see Bremner's overhead wire coming along nicely and another nice shot from Jim. As usual, Rick has knocked out a couple of nicely done freight cars and Brad's contest shots are superb. All the dioramas are great, but I think I would have to give the nod to the sawmill. Also really like John's four corners with the stoplights. I'm going to have to look into those. All in all a great week so far, but I suspect it's not done yet. Excellent work everyone!

Jim, I do remember you telling us you were going to stop posting this October and can definitely understand that. I hope, however, (probably along with many others here) that you might feel up to updating us from time to time on progress on the new layout. In any case, your photos have been greatly appreciated. Thanks for posting.

Hi all, I started model railroading at 60, not knowing that I had any skills. I got photography skills through the years climbing and sailing. I started in Z and now I'm finishing in On30. I've enjoyed sharing my photos here at TB. I share all I know on another site, with 1.16 million hits! I've been asked not to name the site here and that's okay. I've always been a teacher and now health has put an end to modeling. Sadly I never learned much about trains per se, but my efforts in scenery have hopefully made modelers better scenery makers. Yes, I am working on my last layout and should be finished by my birthday on Oct. 25. If I can get a few good photos I will post them from time to time. Thanks for the good memories here. Jim
