I do not know if the install will be sound or silent decoder until I have a chance to open the tender and shell to check out available space. Boiler shell and tender shell have screws in them so access should be fairly simple. Must remember to take pictures as I go to aid reassembly. My guess is most likely room for a non sound decoder. I will not be able to start for 2-3 weeks but that gives me plenty of time to think it out. As always, have fun, Carl
I would guess you could fit a sound decoder into the tender. I fit a Tsunami 2 into an N scale MP Vandy tender (the shorter, 8 wheel Vandy). I posted the install on nScale.net... Am I allowed to post the link here?
Ya that's a nice big tender should be able to get most anything you want in there with a good size speaker.
@NDave, why not just post your install into a thread? (Please, do not post a thread link to another board)
NDave, Thanks for that excellent tutorial and video. If you got all that into that small vandy, I may be surprised what I can do to the Key vandy. One thing, for sure, I think your video sold me on the Tsunami 2 steam sounds. Carl
I have been very impressed wit the Tsunami 2 steam 2 decoder. The Vandy install was my second use of this decoder. I posted a thread on my installation of a Tsunami 2 into a Bachmann N scale USRA short tender, my first ever decoder install. Turns out it was much more cramped than the Vandy install!
