I have a color laser printer . If i can make the decals at home I will, but I can only do paint schemes that are dark on a light color. I get laser decal paper from Micro-Mark. If I need white, I will use one of the custom decal shops, but I will print at home in black to test fit the decals first. I have drawn up artwork in Coral Draw or Photoshop depending on what the custom decal shop prefers. If you search for Athearn release announcements in PDF format, you can grab the vector artwork right out of them. This is how I got the Western Pacific font and logos. I typically go the Ceadarleaf Decals who works with Photoshop files, but was thinking of using one of the other custom printers just to try them out so I don't have to convert from vector to pixel artwork.

Well l had the unit finished last week, but it was just too clean and new looking for a WP engine.

So I did a little weathering job on the engine and now it looks right.

These things run very well. I’m surprised how good they are with power
pickup and pulling power. I think the only downside is that they tend to run-away down fill, like a Marklin steam engine.

Another great EMD switcher in Z! I like the custom headlight. A detail I left off mine.

Everyone needs at least of of these.

Thanks, guys! It's got a ESU nano decoder in the nose and LED lighting. I just "happen" to posses one of the number glasses from the real #620 that ended up in Southern Indiana.

Another nice addition would be a GE 44 tonner. Shortpainter, is this something on your docket?

Yes it is. So far I have discovered the shorty trucks would work great but I believe the shorty motor is too wide to fit under the hood. There are smaller motors that will fit but the shafts are too narrow to hold the shorty's worm gear. I could widen the hood but I would rather exhaust every other option before I distort the proportions of the model. I'll have to figure out a way around these issues. Thanks for asking. (y)

Thank you for getting back to us so quickly. Perhaps this could be a blend of 3d print and photo-etched panels?

I can't wait to see it. I am modeling the Boston waterfront and the Union Freight RR had a small fleet of GE 44 ton locos. I have attempted a crude version using a Marklin switcher. It looks a little like a 44 tonner but the real thing is something I've been waiting for. Thanks for your efforts. Jim

SW1200s for friends and family. The NS Cow/calf is pure fantasy but it is pretty sweet looking. I took inspiration from the ex Southern SW1s that NS had.
